So, I just had this idea for a variant of the Flaylock Pistol, an Airburst Variant! But wait, don't go to the reply box just yet and type your outrage at such a thing, I have more to say! First things first, increase the splash radius. Now, I can tell my you're getting angry at this point, but hang on a moment. After this, remove Direct Damage and lower splash damage to, say, 100? 120? Sounding better? Did steam stop coming out of your ears yet? Now, I know what you're saying "Spade, what possible reason would you have to remove direct damage?" to which I respond "Let me finish you patronising clone" And to that point, the next part has already been said, see that airburst part up there? It means it bursts in the air, clever eh? Basically, it would explode when it reaches to a certain proximity of the target, say, a metre? And as another downside, drop the ammo count from 3 to 2. And BAM! One flaylock pistol variant that is effective at damaging groups but ineffective at killing anything.
Now, I cordially request that you say WHY you don't like it, rather than just "no" |

Just kidding, I think there should be variants for everything, and the more the merrier. I think it should be explode on impact, however, it would be needlessly complicated to explode within a meter of a target. What target? What if a dropship flies by and get too close and activates it? What if you shoot past a railing and a person behind the railing activated it and thus it does only damage to them?.
THATS the fun of it
I know coding and all that is difficult, but I think it'd be nice to just discuss things regardless of the difficulty of coding and talk more about in game balance and the like |

Matticus Monk wrote:This is an interesting concept. I have to wonder, though - what do you see as the advantage of using a weapon like this instead of a grenade? Would it not serve the same purpose, but be less efficient? The basic grenade does 400 damage I think and while I don't remember what the radius is I thought it was on the order of 3-4 meters. I guess you could use grenades AND this weapon, however I wouldn't want to sacrifice my sidearm for a splash/area effect weapon of minimal damage when compared to a grenade.
It seems a weapon like this would be very situational: I could see myself using it prior to rushing a group of enemies, but again - that is what I'd use a grenade for.
I'm all for weapon variants though, and maybe some others have different ideas on a weapon like this.
I see your point. Thing with grenades, you only get 3 of them, whereas with the flaylock you get a total of about 20 rockets, something like that, so you could use this more times, with only two shots before reloading to prevent abuse. Plus, because of the proximity feature it'd be a slightly easier hit than the grenade, and people can see you cooking a grenade and have an increased time to respond. I also feel it would be a nifty weapon to finish off a nearly dead enemy running away. |
