Wow Sky you are all kinds of wrong here. Yes, Gallente Assault is hampered by its mobility and by the general assault suit bonus not really helping us but the upcoming changes will make a huge difference mobility wise and CCP has already said that they really want to have different bonuses (specifically armor movement penalty reduction for gallente) but are having a hard time implementing it at this time. This new build is actually going to make a huge difference for us (yep I successfully use a Gallente Assault suit).
Lets look at how the changes to armor are going to directly benefit the Gallente Assault since that is what you are so fixated upon. First off the armor movement penalty is going to be cut in half. That means all of our suits are going to become 50% faster. At only -5% running a complex plate will not be such a massive deficit. Additionally the buff to Ferroscale plates means that you'll be able to have a suit with a large amount of HP thanks to a single standard complex plate and several ferroscale plates that can tank a huge amount of damage while remaining rather mobile.
I can hear you starting to whine already, "But I still won't be able to keep up with the Caldari or Minmatar assaults." This is not a problem at all. Being the fastest often means your the one who gets shot first. Use the Caldari and Minmatar suits as convenient meat shields and blast away from behind your mobile living cover. You'll get more kills and survive more. -5% or even -7% is not going to be the cause of you loosing a suit. Use tactics, move with a squad, and have an exit strategy. These are the things that are really going to give you an edge.
Beyond the reduction of the armor movement penalty armor plates are going to give your suits more HP. Yep, that is right. Now you too will have a nice buffer tank, and thanks to the way armor reppers work you'll actually keep getting repaired while you're getting shot. Shields don't do that, shield users have to get out of battle and wait to rep. Armor tankers, especially those with 2 armor reppers or more can stay right in the thick of things. This is a major benefit to your squad since you'll be able to keep dishing out damage once your shield tanking meat shields have had to retreat to wait for their shields to come back. Shield tankers need to be faster to get away to rep. Armor tankers don't really have to escape with the same urgency. Add in some repping nanohives at your feet and you are a mobile attack force that should not be trifled with.
At several points in this conversation you have stated that you have problems going up against other assult suits. I don't really find this to be a problem. Perhaps you need to stop trying to shield tank your Gallente suit and use it for its intended role. You'll find that Cal. and Min. assaults go down just as well as any other frame. Remeber, you're gallente, hitpoints, repping nanohives, and your meat shield squad mates are your best friends.
It seems like I forgot one more advantage of armor tanking. Flux grenades. You get to ignore them. Enemy throws a flux, charge on in shooting. You only have 150-200 shields anyway. Flux your shield tanked enemy though and they are going to go down quickly.
Now I'm not going to claim that the buffs that are slated for this build are going to make armor and shields perfectly balanced. I haven't played with the modifications yet and it would be presumptuous of me to make such a statement. We will still be at the mercy of explosion spammers after all. We will though be much more capable.
On as side note, are you saying that you have to run proto gear to get 20 kills in a pub match using a Gallente assault suit? If so then you really need to take a close look at your tactics and your fittings since I ,and many other Gallente Assault players, don't have such problems. |

Wait a minute, you're still complaining that many people who have posted replies to your thread are not Gallente Assault users but quite a few of us are. We all understand that you are quite hurt by your lack of ability with the suit you've chosen to run but your constant complaining about it, and complete failure to deeply read the advice of others, is not helping. Contained in this thread are numerous posts about how to successfully set up a strong Gallente Assault suit.
Maybe you should test out actually armor tanking your suit as has been suggested. You'll find that you are much more successful than you are currently with your shield tanking. The Gallente Assault suit really is designed for armor tanking. You don't get that many low slots just to shield tank after all.
Oh and Dust514 is a MMORPG/FPS. Yes, the game in its current incarnation heavily features the FPS elements but CCP has stated that they intend to merge us more with EVE and with this change will come more RPG elements. I will never argue that this is a sword and sorcery RPG but it is clearly a Sci-fi one and as such has it s own lore. Gallente as armor tankers is part of that lore. Please make sure you actually understand what you are taking about before going on one of your personal attack binges then trying to pass it off as a joke; abuse isn't funny. |

Sky Dovahkiin wrote:I just got killed 3 times in a row by a caldari assault fast mover with one melee hit... And im proto gallente with 295 shields and 515 armor, and she was running an adv caldari, where is this fair? Im not crying, im simply calling out every bad thing i find in this game, so dont hate... CCP should make all proto suits more resistent to lower tier suits and guns, its just logic...Its 124 k each loadout. Im simply trying to improve the game, dont assume i die a lot... If i die twice i lose Money and i had 120 mil after uprising... So i die 2 to none times each battle and that is going solo. Not bragging.
I'm going to stop you right there Sky. Proto gear used to be much more powerful than advanced gear. It was so much more powerful that people in lower tier suits really needed to just run away from protos. CCP smartly shrunk the difference between gear tiers which makes it so a skilled player in lower tier gear can successfully challenge a player with better gear.
The idea of proto gear isn't that it is an 'I win button' against people running lower tier gear, it provides bonuses through increased fitting options and therefore increased damage/survivability. This does not mean though that you won't loose your suits. Proto gear is intended to be expensive to reduce players ability to use it constantly and still make a profit. Now while this isk mechanic is currently broken since many of us have so much isk the relatively flat tiers still make competition only slightly titled in favor of the proto gear.
Now that all of that is said I feel like I should point out to you that there are some bugs with the melee system that people are exploiting. People have found that by hitting the sprint button right after the melee button they can reset the animation but still do full melee damage. The upside of this for them is that they can, at the expense of stamina, do 4 or more melee attacks in a matter of seconds. Add in some modules that boost stamina and melee damage and you can easily out damage any gun in the game for raw dps. I'm talking about 600+ damage for three rapid fire hits, and more if you can get more to land (though often they use some of their stamina sprinting at you).
Whihle I don't know the exact situation surrounding your death I suspect that you were already damaged and that you let the opponent close with you thinking you could kill them long before they punched you to death. Well since the tiers are relatively flat (advanced is almost as good as proto remember) and this person may have been exploiting a bug, you got whomped.
Don't feel bad. Happens to all of us. Just remember to run with the kid gloves on when you have your proto gear out. Oh, and don't run solo, group up with people as this will vastly increase your ability to kill/survive. |
