Warning: if you're expecting a nerf thread or hate thread this isn't it.
CCP,
When EVE Online first arrived, I remember seeing all types of ads inviting me to play. The sci fi element snatched my attention. With more research about your game, the lore and premise further pulled me in. The story was just pure genius and engaging. Sadly, I never got around to playing EVE. Maybe because I'm a console gamer instead of a PC gamer. Whatever the case, I just didn't get the chance to play it.
As years passed I watched EVE grow. Every now and then I would read up on the lore. Even laughably watching Youtube videos trying to make sense of what I saw. I read interesting stories about how players robbed and hustle folks within New Eden. I was impressed by the way you handled those situations. More or less, you felt that the person should do research before they make certain choices with players. I admired that. A game that punishes you for not thinking and rewards you for doing so. I noticed how the community and developer seem to work together in a way that I haven't experienced myself or at least seen with other dev teams. I noticed how folks submerged themselves into the world you built and the world they continually created with their actions. The thought rose to join the universe and yet again, it faded.
Fast forward and I hear news of CCP going a step further and plan to make a console FPS game that is tied to the EVE online universe. My head exploded with excitement for several reasons. First, the undertaking alone is nothing short of commendable. Never had I heard of a developer company looking to connect PC to console and vice versa. The ultimate one was that now I had my absolute chance in entering New Eden. And the actions of me and mercs alike would affect the world of EVE and EVE, Dust 514.
I've been playing for about 5 months and honestly there is nothing else that I play on my PS3 really. There's just so much that I appreciate about this game. I love the social aspect of this game. That's just some ingenious work. Chat channels, squadding up, Alliance chat...all those things connect me to the universe. The fact that Dust punishes you for making choices that are not in your best interests on the battlefield. The dropsuit system that you lose your gear when you die on the battlefield. The intense fire fights when a good batch of players get on. The building of corporations and PC battles for supremacy. And jumping out of the MCC makes me feel like the ultimate bad butt.
I know we still have issues with the game but it's expected. I just wanted you guys to know that I really appreciate what you have come up with. Thanks for creating Dust, for it allowed me to get some foot into EVE so to speak. Thanks for your vision and going against the grain. Thanks for being a development team that does listen to their fans and community. The response might not be timely, but its better than having none at all.
All in all, I'm here for the long haul. Watching your Fanfest (yea I'm so late) was just exciting to watch. Especially listening and seeing what Brandon brought to the stage; I am excited about the future of Dust. Just like EVE, with time I expect you guys to really take this game to even newer heights. I have never been so engaged into a world like I am with Dust. You have my support most definitely.
