CCP is working on this.
@OP: Someone suggested the ability to deploy tank traps (like the ones already on certain maps) that were destructible. Wouldn't make much of a immediate cover but would do the trick for stopping vehicles. Especially if you throw some proxy mines behind them. Your idea for this "Dragons Teeth" isn't half bad. Would be a nice infantry tool to use and AV could take advantage of it by hiding behind it in-between swarms (tankers might get p*ssed though )

Considering the number of good tankers I have rolled with I would have to say that you are absolutely right lol.

The portable shield is coming and will be used as cover.
Furthermore, this slowing down of vehicles will be the job of deployable web devices, the likes of which are seen in EVE. I foresee a nanohive-like bubble on the ground that simply snags vehicles like the giant cables you see on aircraft carriers to catch and slow down landing planes.
Actually it's a projectile so you could also snare dropships if aimed correctly. I think it works on infantry too but that, I cannot confirm. |

Dimitri Rascolovitch wrote:i believe this to be partially correct, in the concept of dragons teeth and the description of the first ones, but dragons teeth, as far as i know are solely the large pyramid shaped cement and rebar slabs. They are usually deployed in large number at irregular intervals to make the passage of tanks and heavily armored vehicles far more difficult if not impossible
just to verify our statements i went and asked wiki Dragon's teeth (fortification) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dragons Teeth on GHQ Line in Britain in 2006 Dragon's teeth (German: Drachenz+ñhne, literally "dragon teeth") are square-pyramidal fortifications of reinforced concrete first used during the Second World War to impede the movement of tanks and mechanised infantry. The idea was to slow down and channel tanks into killing zones where they could easily be disposed of by anti-tank weapons. They were employed extensively, particularly on the Siegfried Line.
I love the idea of making the terrain more difficult to traverse for vehicles, but with the way i see this item in particular i fear it will either be used more often as a ladder of sorts enabling players to reach areas previously unavailable without a derpship, or to block staircases so infantry cant get into an area thereby creating a forced choke point or making it impossible to get into a building or objective as it would likely be gaurded by another player upon high ground making it harder to destroy
1) Using an item outside there use is kinda what DUST is all about apparently (LLAV/CalLogi/MD/Scouts). 2) MD, FG, and P-Cannons will have another use. This is both good and bad as MD will be popping up more often. 3) If destroying equipment gave WP then then creating a barricade to prevent infantry would mean the enemy getting an OB quicker so it would be a risk vs reward kind of thing.

ADAM-OF-EVE wrote: you can't see remote explosives or proxy mines so they offer no detarance. as for being too fast paced, i don't think that makes a difference. people will always be trying to take over different points. sometimes they just spam vehicles or tanks to overwhelm them. being able to fortify against vehicles even for a short time would balance out defense and make it a bit more viable when the enemy is vehicle heavy. not everyone is KDR mad and decided to defend instead. buying time to send help back to a point could only be beneficial to all, more kills all around as positions are harder to take and require tactics rather than overwhelming force.
Hmm now that I think about it, where would this item go in the skill tree?
Upgrades>Core>Engineering>Dragon?

ADAM-OF-EVE wrote: actually i was thinking about this just a few hours ago and i would place these as an off chute of nano hives. it would require nano circuitry and then nano fabrication skills
so something along the lines of
nano circuitry 3 as prerequisite nano fabrication 1 (basic) nano fabrication 3 (advanced) nano fabrication 5 (proto)
this or just have them available at the same level as nano hives and needle are on the nano circuitry skill.
Nah, let them be a branch skill (from nano is ok as it makes sense) as I don't want nano circuitry to have too much value.

ADAM-OF-EVE wrote:id probably let assault swarm launchers lock them so as to be able to help clear them out and offer up a secondary role to a pretty much useless item
The A-SL locks on to more than 1 vehicle at a time right? This actually could be nice. Would also work as a sort of E-War in a sense that placing teeth near a friendly tank would make it more difficult to lock-on to it as your Launcher would keep trying to target the teeth. ... ... ! I can see so many things happening with this lol. Picture a cloaked scout gets into position and manages to place RE on them right before the rest of the team is able to push forward. Tanks show up and right when they reach the barricade the scout sets off the RE, destroying the teeth and killing anyone attempting to use it as cover!
Oh man! Why isn't this in yet!?
