dragons teeth - these are self assembling devices which once deployed (3B /4A /6P) assemble themselves into 2m square immovable objects. the purpose is to provide ways of defending positions from vehicles by denying them access unless they destroy the blocks with all methods at their disposal except swarms as they cant lock them.
these blocks can also be used for cover purposes where cover doesn't exist such as in the open |

i did suggest that it can be destroyed by any type of weapon except swarms(because its shouldnt be a lockable target as lots of these would cause too much locking interferance) |

this is not deployable cover though, this is ways to restrict vehicle movement tempereraliy but also as a by product offer limited cover. |

it should only be deployable on flat ground same as any other deployable device.
damage would be equal both ways for impact damage from vehicles. if your in a lav you can ram it to destroy it but sustain damage yourself. essentially you could weaken a path through from a distance and while people are taking cover you could ram your lav through the weakened dragons teeth or just chain lav's. the first ones might blow but take the dragons teeth with them allowing the others to break through. |

CCP is working on this. @OP: Someone suggested the ability to deploy tank traps (like the ones already on certain maps) that were destructible. Wouldn't make much of a immediate cover but would do the trick for stopping vehicles. Especially if you throw some proxy mines behind them. Your idea for this "Dragons Teeth" isn't half bad. Would be a nice infantry tool to use and AV could take advantage of it by hiding behind it in-between swarms (tankers might get p*ssed though )
`Sigh. Just another fun game of DUST .
when is a bad tanker not p*ssed. good tankers don't get p*ssed lol. |

Fire of Prometheus wrote:I want these!!!!!! It made me think of a sort of "riot shield type weapon" it would be a heavy weapon that has 1500 hp (numbers can be reworked this is just an idea). Basically only a heavy can use it, and it occupies a weapon slot. This shield could be repaired by an armour repper (once it runs out of hp, it becomes no longer usable) it would be useful in groups of 2 or 3, one guy carries the shield and blocks fire, while the other people shoot from behind it (or if a logi is with them, heals the shield). It would be a great asset in CQC.
once again not a shield, read the op.
if you want to make a shield post then do so somewhere else plz, lets stay on topic |

dragons teeth are anything which is deployted in a fixed way with the sole purpose to abstruct enemy vehicle movement. the first ones looked like a row of teeth on the ground hence the name i believe and modern versions are a bit different. there are lots of different types |

Dimitri Rascolovitch wrote: I love the idea of making the terrain more difficult to traverse for vehicles, but with the way i see this item in particular i fear it will either be used more often as a ladder of sorts enabling players to reach areas previously unavailable without a derpship, or to block staircases so infantry cant get into an area thereby creating a forced choke point or making it impossible to get into a building or objective as it would likely be gaurded by another player upon high ground making it harder to destroy
snipers/forge gunners on the top of every building and mcc's, jumping up a few meters isn't going to change much as we can already get everywhere. even a recon suit can only jump so high so i don't see it being a big problem especially if the height is put at that max height.
as for blocking off stairwells well this item has to be deployed on a flat surface with enough room to deploy. if you have a narrow walkway such as a footbridge then this device has to be placed perfect in order not to encroach on other things. most stairwells have no side walls or the last step leads onto a flat open area so won't be able to block it off completely but i do like the creating choke points . also these are destructible items so a few well placed grenades or remote explosives and its gone.
remember they are designed to block vehicles which only 1 in 100 has crew so causing the vehicle to either accept damage from impact, jump out and kill obstruction themselves slowing them down or they carry crew which can use the turrets or jump out to kill the obstruction.
i do think some people may spam these inside buildings to protect them but as they are easily destroyable and would limit enemy retreat and movement inside the building if over used then a few mass drivers would rule in that situation. i also envision these as very heavy cpu/pg intensive so everyone fitting one is not going to be a likely scenario .
if they put a hard cap on deployable objects to 6 then someone who spams these is then unable to use nano hives, drop uplinks etc without despawning their dragons teeth or vice versa. these devices will not offer the user sp but will offer the killer sp. this will deter spam like you said but not prevent it and give vehicle drivers a reason to carry crew. |

Construction is an interesting idea, though I see the game too fast paced. I do not want to stick around at any place for a longer time (think Orbitals). You could also think about construction vs deployment as in Domination or Ambush (OMS?) where the stuff is deployed during battle. You could request that stuff from your battlefield commander (a role that is still not available though) and point out where you need them.
you can't see remote explosives or proxy mines so they offer no detarance. as for being too fast paced, i don't think that makes a difference. people will always be trying to take over different points. sometimes they just spam vehicles or tanks to overwhelm them. being able to fortify against vehicles even for a short time would balance out defense and make it a bit more viable when the enemy is vehicle heavy. not everyone is KDR mad and decided to defend instead. buying time to send help back to a point could only be beneficial to all, more kills all around as positions are harder to take and require tactics rather than overwhelming force. |

Hmm now that I think about it, where would this item go in the skill tree? Upgrades>Core>Engineering>Dragon?
`Sigh. Just another fun game of DUST .
actually i was thinking about this just a few hours ago and i would place these as an off chute of nano hives. it would require nano circuitry and then nano fabrication skills
so something along the lines of
nano circuitry 3 as prerequisite nano fabrication 1 (basic) nano fabrication 3 (advanced) nano fabrication 5 (proto)
this or just have the available at the same level as nano hives and needle are available from the nano circuitry skill. |

i was just thinking, what if ccp created a tiling system where when the device is deployed it essentially creates a tile and then a random item from the set of pre defined items is placed on its spot such as barrels, boxes, concrete pillars, caltrops, barricades, civilian bodies etc
this way its like the mercs have created a barricade using what's lying about |

thats something entirely different from what i'm suggesting. a tank would just steamroll over the top of what you suggested

I propose a deployable piece of equipment called something like "webifier field generator". It deploys like an RE or drop uplink, but has a sustained area of effect that reduces the movement speed of any vehicle going through it by a suitable percentage.
This would also mean that devs won't need to create any new 3d models (as for the dragons teeth), but could implement it quite quickly.

There are different kinds of tank traps of course but those were the ones I was talking about. Some tanks just push them out of the way. What type of tank did you drive? A friend of mine was in armour when he served, and apparently those tank traps and dragons teeth don't hold up against Swedish modified Leopard 2's (granted they have souped up engines and thicker armor than the normal Leopard 2's that the Germans exported, which might explain it)
people have this vision that tanks can do anything and nothing in their path can stop them. i have seen a challenger 2 tank virtually split in 2 because it hit a rock. i have seen barbed wire rip off road wheels. you would be surprised what can actually stop a tracked vehicle in its tracks.
you also won't crush tank traps made of steel girder. no chance. they are designed to hold off tanks. you might be able to push them on hard surfaces like roads but on soft ground they will likely dig in and you will rise up on them and get stuck.
