all fantasy is unreal with realistic properties and more importantly must be true to its own rules of what is and isn't possible...
take superman, unreal right, kryptonite, unreal, yes, but if superman were to suddenly be impervious to kryptonite without any sort of explanation that fits with that reality it would lack "realism"
same rule applies here, things must be real to the fantasy environment created, sometimes some of that realness overlaps with our reality, example: guns kill real in this world and ours.... |

I don't think people mean realism when they talk about the factions or being a future mercenary they mean realism when it comes down to things like collisions, how a gun fires, simple movement mechanics. For example holding circle on a dropship and teleporting in to it is unrealistic having to jump in to the dropship and put your self in the pilot seat is realistic (or an animation that is done automatically for you). That is realistic being in the the future and part of an imaginary faction is just part of the lore and fiction. |

All theology has many forms, if jump gates and warp drives are gifts from god then so be it, out of the four empires they're the only ones that kept more than enough records to at least know that earth was possibly the homeworld to humanity. All the other races completely forgot everything.

Agreeing with IWS. A religion founded after space travel had been achieved would by default probably include space travel. It's not like they would colonize new worlds and then lock themselves back into the bronze age religions that we have currently. We already have lasers and spaceships btw, in case you've never read a science article from the last few decades, albeit obviously not at the level portrayed in this game. The clone thing is far-fetched, but pretty much everything in here is more realistic than a microwave would have seemed 100 years ago.
The clone thing is possible, its called stem-cell research. About transferring your memories, there's actually a scientist that's trying to achieve this, but not to a clone, but to a cyborg. So dust tech is not far from the truth. |

The ammount of energy needed to "force" a laser of any tangable effect through an atmosphere would probably ignight it (really hope we're not fighting on an oxygen rich planet ) |

Personally I am a Catholic and I have no problem accepting the possibilities of space travel and science in general.
That's good then, denying reality is not good for anyone. |

everyone in the community (myself including) use realism MAINLY when it suits their argument, but not when it goes against what they want (although i do concede to realism on both good and bad parts for my bases). |

In reality we have 6 **** grenade launchers with a 15m casualty radius and a warhead strong enough to penetrate light-armores vehicles.
By comparison, the mass driver is terrible. That being said, an M16 is effective out to 800m depending on the shooter. Realism is a bad thing for video games. |

Anytime ppl talk about realism in a game it is always in reference to game mechanic abuse, game flow and immersion.
Failure to understand that is either trolling or fanboy defense of exploiting cheap game mechanics. Arguments over realism are relative to how a game mechanic allows for game balance, variety and flow. |
