If you want to say that various weapons are downsides to tanking--which doesn't really make any sense--then armor has downs of mass drivers, flaylock pistols, locus grenades, etc.

How about the fact that to get as much HP as a basic armor plate you have to spend more than four times the PG/CPU? Sounds like a downside to me. But do you need to get a repairer on your shield? Check the CPU PG on those plz. Check how much time it take to repair armor with a repairer on vs the shield. from any suits. Not as fast as when your armor is being repped by a proto rep tool/triage hive I bet. Armor/shields is a complicated relationship with many variables involved and its pros/cons have been debated into the ground. My beef is with the people that make ludicrous claims one way or the other, like the guy claiming that shields have no inherent disadvantages. lol. It's not a ludicrous claim. Shields don't have a downside. A shield extender doesn't make you easier to hit, cause your shield to perform differently, slow you down or anything. Period. You add a shield extender and you add more straight hp.
I'm not saying that there's not comparative differences with armor fittings, hp amounts and the like. But you're saying that its a "ludicrous claim" to say shields have no downside, when, in fact, they don't. Show me the penalty for fitting a shield extender, and I'll glady admit I was wrong.; for example, the penalty for fitting an armor plate is I walk slower.
