In Dust 514 players, as well as CCP, the game developer, have completely ignored the entire point of video games; To be competitive you overcome, adapt, and use the best assets to you have to your advantage to do so.
In many games there are OP things made on purpose, intended to be used for the epitome of gaming in that paticular meta game, and there are also crutches, OP things made for noobs to be able to compete so they don't feel left in the dust,(lol) as players more skilled completely obliterate them.
Somes examples of this are the noobtube from CoD. This is an easy to use weapon capable of killing anyone rather easily. Basically intended to give newer players a chance, as veteran players will almost never use this, as it is easily countered with flack jacket, and suppressors/ghost/cold blooded are far better options for skilled players if used correctly.
Another example is tekken: revolution, in this game there are critical arts moves, these power moves are effective and extremely easy to perform, meant to give newer players a way of fighting. Of course these are crucial when low level players fight each other- to the point where the winner is often the spammer. However these moves are almost NEVER used by better players, as once again, they are easy to counter, easily recognisable, and there are far better options available to the better players. Most notably a move called the EWGF, an extremely hard to perform, arguably OP move that is a staple in professional tekken players play styles around the world.
Why is this important you ask? In dust, these archetypes of gaming, normally taught in gaming developer classes, have all been ignored, butchered, and completely thrown out the window.
In Dust, the noobtube would have been nerfed, as the forum would've said it was too easy to use. In Dust, the suppressors/ghost/cold blooded would have been nerfed, as the forum would've said it was too effective. In Dust, the power moves, would've have been nerfed, as the forums would've said it was too effective and easy to use. In Dust, the EWGF, would've have been nerfed, as the forums would've said it was too effective.
The fact is that the community are uneducated when it comes to game development, and will always be biased, crying to nerf everything they cannot do themselves, or simply do not wish to overcome. Most developers realised this a long time ago, and hardly ever listen to the community when making changes to the game, doing so only when unintended game breaking things are blatantly obvious.
CCP has chosen instead to listen to the very biased community of these forums, and as a result has their hands full trying to please them, rather than focusing on adding new content, updating graphics and ironing out bugs, as well as making a few tweaks to unintended core gameplay here and there; things that make a game great and appeal to new players, and make or break a game especially from a marketing standpoint.

This is more or less the reason of its current predicament, as the forums have voted for things completely beneficial to their own interests, yet destructive to the appealment of new and veteran players alike time and time again. |

True Adamance wrote:Its damn good CCP don't listen to us most of the time.... its a damn shame they don't listen to those with good suggestions. Exactly, the original point of feedback is to wade through the BS, while picking out the great ideas some people have and incorporating them, unfortunately we have seen instead CCP ignoring the good ideas and focusing on simply pleasing the biased and loudest. |

Will this be the first part in a series?
If so it could go on for some time. I'd never waste my time explaining things more than once to an audience that wouldn't listen. |

I AM THEAMAZING POTHEAD :P Well hue...I guess? I don't know if a few classes qualifies you to criticize business decisions of the guys that have a game on display at MOMA, but a good point raised nonetheless. Had they checked their corners CCP would have saved themselves a lot of trouble cleaning up. *shrug* two cents No doubt its not like I'm super qualified to be making these criticisms, but it also not like I don't know wtf I'm talking about. If I had pursued a career in Game Design or something of the like, I sure as hell wouldn't be playing dust, I would NOT be able to deal with all the mediocrities and lack of attention to details put into the game. I've always thought the idea or product mattered more than the reputation of its creator, just like how I'm not a game designer, yet I'm making a valid point, so is CCP a rather reputable company, with a completely mediocre product. |
