On searching for this issue, I've seen conflicting results for whether you can use a repair tool on yourself or not.
This is particularly important to me, given the 0 armor regen for Caldari

Am I stuck for fast regen, other than to skill unlock the regen nanohive types?

You cannot use the Repair Tool on self.
You need to fit a Low Slot module called Armor Repairer that will automatically repair yourself

Basic armor reps are very little skill and isk investment, very easy to fit as well. Just need to gauge how much you really need it compared to other items you may be able to fit

meaning, "Just resign yourself to the fact that Caldari scouts are squishy, short-lifed creatures"?

Lmao yeah, pretty much. Kincats are probably more useful but I am definitely no scout so i would leave that up to the pros

heh. Well, when I was starting out, I got oneshotted a lot, so I can understand that.
However, of late, I find myself actually surviving sometimes, with either a sliver, or zero, armor left.
This is in a Galliente Scout G1.
When I get around to actually leveling Shield Control, and Field Mechanics, I hope my hit-survivability ratio to get somewhat higher.

I'm reluctant to use up a low-power slot with a passive repair thingie, because at the moment, I tend to use both my slots for prrofile dampeners.

(I lurk in the shadows... MUAH-hahahhahahaa....)

Right now, I have two builds:

Initial drop scout with uplinks. Then a "lets get serious" scout with better rifle, knives, and repair tool.
Except that I dont get to use the tool much. Usually too far from the action to help others.

Too bad that they dont have a "reequip" placeable node, and I'm usually too far from the existing ones to use them anyway.
So, sounds like that improved nanohive is looking better...

we did this about 1 year ago it was possible and yea it was great, you just targeted nothing and it repaired yourself but they patched it where you could no longer rep yourself, so it is and was possible i guess they just dont want it,

that MIGHT only work with a proto tool, even then i probably wouldnt because it heals at 115hp per second and i think every single weapon in the game can out damage that in a second, probably less

What you meant to say is that there are no caldari scout SUITS.
 I'm a caldari in a galente suit.

 Squish, squish, squish.

 No.
However, I ran into a targeting glitch with my LLAV (can't figure out how to do it again) where I managed to lock onto and repair myself, while I was driving.

 Your options so far are:
 Minmatar scout (native/racial 1hp/s repair)
 Armor repairer in low slots
Compact and other 'healing' nanohives (compacts have low PG/CPU requirements, so probably your best option if you don't want to skill into minmatar suits.

Um, short of losing all of your armor, I'm pretty sure caldari assaults can potentially have the highest regen speed of any fit atm. Just don't lose all your HP.

Minmatar Med & Assault have the 1hp/s. Not light or scout.

Also get used to swinging by out-of-the-way supply depots to switch to another suit type then back. that will give you full armor.

Are you saying that, unlike virtually every other caldari dropsuit... the assault suit actually has armor regen?
