So from the new armor buff thread it was revealed that strafe speed is currenly 1-1 with sprint. It's getting a measly 10% reduction. My question is why can people strafe faster then their walk speed and have no loss in stamina. Also if u can strafe as fast as you can sprint and shoot why can't u shoot while in full sprint. 10% is not enough. Even pro athletes who train sideways movement cannot move 90% of their full forward run let alone shoot ACCURATELY. Sure this is a game and all that but if strafe stays at the new 90% sprint with no stamina penalty and no aiming penalty then the thinking on this is... Well kinda silly. Maybe introduce an aiming penalty and make stamina not regenerate while strafing. Thoughts? Crying? Agreement? What do u guys think |

it's 90% of basic walk/movement.. not sprint speed
reading is fun
Went back and seen where the confusion was.. wolfman did say run like a pro troll and fooled some people I guess. The base movement speed is pretty much a run, and then there is Sprint |

CCP Wolfman wrote:Hi guys,
A quick heads up for some upcoming changes in 1.4 to armour and movement.
Currently a bug has caused some of the movement speed modifiers on strafe to be ignored. This is good and bad. ItGÇÖs good because faster strafe speeds are cool. ItGÇÖs bad because right now strafe speed is at least 1:1 with run speed and this was not our intention. In keeping with normal physical limitations strafe was intended to be slower than run. We had planned to raise the strafe speed from the 1.1 build to around 80% of run speed (it was lurking around 60-70% or so depending on frame). After seeing how popular (and fun) the higher strafe speeds have been we changed our minds. We still wanted to maintain a difference between forward and sideways movement but we didnGÇÖt want to make a significant reduction to the speeds. So weGÇÖve settled on strafe speed as 90% of run speed across all suits.
Before anyone freaks out, this does not mean it is set in stone forevermore. It just means that we want to play the game with the settings we actually intended so we can properly judge them. There are a lot of updates to the game in 1.4 so weGÇÖll be watching very closely to see what we need to respond to :-)
A nice thing that also came out of this is that I found some errant numbers and a bug that were causing the heavy frames to move too slowly backwards as well as reducing their strafe speed. Both of those problems are now fixed as well. CCP Wolfman

I'm pretty sure this is right. They've mentioned that it's 90% of run speed, not sprint speed. That sounds to me that normal forward movement is considered run speed and is you want to go faster, you sprint.
It's stupid to use those names I agree, but it does make a little bit of sense. |

run != sprint. "Run" is what they call "normal" movement speed in FPS. A "walk" is when you only bend the movement stick halfway (and old PC shooters used to have a special key for that as well, but soon people realised that nobody ever wants to walk when they can run). |

I just hope they actually do away with the turn restrictions on heavies. Making the game cater to dancers while limiting how fast you can track them is a wicked bummer. |

Well the Strafe speed decline from using armor is another penalty Armor Tankers have to deal with, while shields can prance around like little ponies on crack. |

He didn't claim strafing should not exist. He was just confused by the way wolfman worded his thread. I would rage too if I found out ccp made a change to where you could strafe near full sprint with no penalty to stamina lol, who wouldn't...well.. kb/m scouts maybe.
Tip on effective strafing = buy a kb/m or just don't bother, because you will be out strafed by one using the kb/m. fact |

Yea great then we can see who can do the most peroets in 1 second like in counter strike. Foolish. Doing away with some sort of turn restrictions for HEAVIES is foolish. Unless your a heavy with a mouse |

They seemed pretty positive about it though, especially since they're removing turn restrictions on MKB. That plus DDR514 means we need to have better tracking. |

Been using kb/m since quake 1997 or so, so I'm good with that. Just wish custom keymapping would come out. Wasd sucks ;) |

It surprises me actually that they have not implemented custom keymapping. Them being PC devs mostly , and this game coming stock with kb/m ability. |
