As I get on the game every time lately, since the last patch was done, I see this ridiculous note telling me that the new players are not benefiting from the academy at all. 400 war points? CCP, this is one good match. Now, I have been playing for quite some time and this doesn't affect me in a huge way except for not wanting to run another character.
If I had never played this game before and was not used to the games control I would probably get irritated and not return to it. I've seen tons of discussion on this topic and many suggestions on how to deal with this in matchmaking. The one thing I feel should be used in Academy "Graduation" is SP. Set the graduation limit at 1.5 million SP. This way the new comers have had a chance to familiarize themselves with the game. Also, they can have a small amount of Adv gear to wear.

1.5mill sp is not enough to really compete with in the pub matches, I would suggest at least 3-4mill as the minnium, that the new comers should have the opportunity to learn all the different aspects of the game, including mock PC and vehicle combat before they leave the academy. When I left the academy I had weak weapons, weak armor, weak gear, hardly anything rating more then basic gear. I did not know how to drive a vehicle and I knew close to nothing about squads. I had to go onto youtube.com to learn many of the missing things about the game that they did not even come close to informing me about in academy such as how to give orders as a squad leader.
I am much better then I was, but if I had got out of academy as early as they are now, I would have quit this game after about five matches of just getting my face stomped in. |

Maybe 1.5 million SP is a bit low but I don't think they should go any higher than 2 million SP. At around 1 million SP spent smart you have access to some advance equipment which gives you a slightly better chance. You're still getting stomped but learning is a little easier.
On the war point front here is how I see it equaling out: 400 WP = 500k + maybe 10k SP
Which means 3 or 4 matches tops in Academy.
Now on the suggestion of 200k WP, that is a bit too high, that would be almost 8 million SP possibly more.
If you want to do a decent WP based Academy I would think that 50k to 75k to graduate
This is still a little high in my opinion but to please the masses that's the posted suggestion. |
