I was just wondering if anyone knew something about how the salvage system works? I don't always get it, which isn't too much of a problem, but when I do, it's normally something that I cannot use or have no interest in using, such as a Thale's Sniper Rifle of a Proto Scrambler Pistol. I know that CCP plan to let us sell our salvage in future, but until then, it would be nice if I could find a way to salvage stuff that is actually useful to me.
Anyone have any ideas? |

As far as I'm aware, what you get is completely random. I have a lot of useless gear in my "back room" also...some of which is quite good. But, like you said, good or not, if it's a piece of gear we aren't skilled in, it's useless. Maybe with CCP doing this they are giving players extra merchandise to actually STOCK the store if and when they implement a community marketplace. Think about it...what would be available in the community marketplace? A bunch of salvaged gear that you can't use, but someone else can...maybe rare officer gear offered by CCP for a ridiculous amount of ISK. By the time they start the marketplace, everybody's gonna have a crap load of salvage they're gonna want to sell, which means a mass spam of merchandise on opening day, which would be difficult to test structurally on the development end. We wouldn't want to lose ISK due to a programming glitch.
I'm looking forward to the store...I strongly believe that's the purpose behind the salvage gear...aside from the gear that you can actually use, of course. |

Salvage is just frustratingly pointless at the moment. We have no control over it, and i swear its inversely proportional to how good you do, dunno. Someday we will be able to sell it, so just think of it as future isk.
@cedz636 - They only have a fairly limited span of items that they are giving out as salvage, otherwise your idea would be solid. Right now there are no vehicles or drop suits for example. The end goal for the market will be to have EVE manufacture all of our items, and the second they allow that our store will be fully stocked, have no fear of that. |

When they moved from open Beta to release they cut a lot of the drops out and also the number of drops down from stacks of i think 5 to between randomly between 1 and 3.
i believe in PC drops are based on equipment lost instead of that table. |

+1,
Agreed, need more (and appropriate) salvage, not only in type, but also in efforts put forth.
If I do a lot of work (high wp), I should have dibs on the equipment that my team has earned.
I too would like to see more salvage; especially for V-CRD (Victory, Clone Reserve Depleted), as this would emulate a complete victory on the battlefield where all adversaries were eliminated thereby leaving behind whatever was brought to the fight.
V-CRD salvage would be in contrast to the destruction of the MCC where you would expect all (or most) of the remaining clones and equipment salvage to be destroyed in the explosion of the MCC... although it will would be nice to be able to earn salvage the destroyed MCC for minerals, circuitry, etc., (much like the salvage in Eve Online).
Perhaps a preference choice in what kind of salvage you would like to earn could be an option in the system menu (perhaps check boxes).
