I've specced into proto, but I save it for PC and don't go beyond advanced in pub matches. I don't mind proto in pub matches anymore, ever since I've learned how to drive. If I can't dent your armor, I can at least dent your wallet.
I see pub matches as casual play, and an analogy would be playing backyard football. When someone comes in wearing full proto it's like bringing full padding to a casual game. Yeah you may have the skills, and no one can tell you not to be safe, but it shifts the whole match heavily in your favor whether you are a better player or not.
We need some real casual modes like PVE. I blame pub stomping less on the people who run proto and more on CCP who need to make more casual game modes. |

Honestly, I have full Proto and I can fit and afford to run full Proto in pub matches continually for a long time.
I still choose not to, because in a pub matches I want to win through skill, not equipment. All at stake is my KD, and that is worthless, especially since I'm a logi. I can casually run with 5 friends in standard and advanced and once we run into 5 other guys wearing their best most expensive proto gear...... the fun dies. It doesn't matter if you earned the gear, or bought it with aurum, it is an unpleasant experience. Even if we still win, we have nothing to extra to gain from the added challenge. I can't imagine the experience for a new player.
Tiericide needs to happen, and game modes need to be expanded, because there are no causual modes as long as people proto pub stomp.
Now for all of you who run proto, I on the other hand understand that if you can afford it why not wear it ? This is new Eden and I support your freedom to run in whatever you choose to run in. There aren't many places to run with your best either, PC is...well PC, and FW is still a mess.
CCP needs to fix this whole set up. One pub stomp is all it takes to turn off a prospective new player. Until CCP finds a fix we can expect stagnant numbers. I just don't want anyone who does go stomping with a full proto squad to think they are helping this game in any way. It's only natural to try your hardest for some, even if it means driving away the competition so no hard feelings on my part. |
