https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1113631#post1113631 Wolfman leaked out some testing on this. I take a deeper interest than most in this because this is a massive buff to scouts and opens up so much more opportunities. I would like to hear some progress on this. Communicate! |

Me too I put in some feedback on Profile/Scanning in terms of vehicles and equipment in the Feedback/Request, to perpetuate this scanning hype and bring scouts to the vehicle world/introduce scout equipment. |

Yes. I believe that the way scouts were meant were to be solo, easier to avoid detection and all, and scout for the rest of the squad. This will be a good advantage to lone wolves, or the ones with the ability to lonewolf should they choose. I'm insinuating that they use Scanning Gear.
On top of that, it would make the whole use of scanning modules and equipment very viable. Medium frames and heavies could start using them to more effect as well. It's a win-win scenario.

Leither Yiltron wrote: 1.The communications channels in Dust 514 are exceedingly hard to manage, mostly because the game doesn't really allow for any sort of hierarchically structured communications.
2.Removing interlaced squad vision might sound immediately satisfying if your goal is to "increase necessary teamwork", but I'd warrant that this would be an overly hasty conclusion. The only avenue a group of player has for adapting to the new lack of information is to try to provide more inter-squad communication. But this is at worst basically impossible and at best damning to the tactical and strategic uses of comms because of the lack of structure I mentioned before. Essentially players need to talk MORE in an environment already cluttered with talking.
What will probably happen is that this won't be the choice taken (increasing the volume of comms clutter). Rather, people will just harden the **** up and deal with less information, resulting in less teamwork.
3Pretending that changes to Active Scanners at all affect the practicality of the scout suit is ridiculous. At worst, you'll see players start cramming some scanners onto logistics suits. Scouts simply don't have any utility other than being fast, and that utility is basically conditionally relevant. Sure, they're the quintessential sniping suit basically because they can get into weird positions with their jump height and speed, but that's literally the only reason they're used for sniping.
Thanks for at least giving reasoning. I have numbered your statements for ease of reference.
1. I honestly need a little more depth from you on this. If you are referring to chat channels that is completely aside from squad chat. 2."you see something you better say something" Teamwork/communication is not merely pointing your gun at something so they can see a Chevron. That is called pointing. This Tac Net rework would mean that in order for your squad to be aware of a threat you have detected is through communication. If you see a scout tell your squad you saw a scout. Basically this prevents snipers from "looking at you" and lighting you up on radar like the fourth of july despite low profile. I don't understand your Comm clutter issue. I have no issue with communicating to my squads. "Hey Icky they got explosives down there hold up." Icky understands, pretty straightforward process. 3. Active scanners are only a fraction of the picture here. Shared Vision without Active Scans is disabled! A scout therefore can not be detected by a foe unless: A)They have a lower scan precision than the scout has in profile B)They are directly looking at the scout themselves C) A squadmate Actively Scanned the scout, successfully Right now Tac Net gear is near useless because shared vision clutters up everyone's radar with everything there is out there. Scouts have low profiles and with a Tac Net rework they will be viable in the stealth field. Sniping has nothing to do with this. |

Shared vision WITH Active Scanners is also disabled, making them a faintly useless commodity.
Claiming that scouts will be "viable in the stealth field" begs the question: What will scouts do with a bit more stealth?
The answer is: Nothing. To understand why, you have to delve into the Skirmish mechanics. Here are some things you can do as a single, fast, stealthy individual in Skirmish:
Not true, shared vision with active scanners is ENABLED.
CCP Wolfman wrote:The active scanner shares all scan results with your squad. The stealth buff is major! We would be able to finally sneak behind somebody to kill them. Right now there is no such thing as sneaking behind somebody because I always appear on Tac Net for no reason. Stealth is a defensive tool to help make up for Scouts lack of health. You can not hurt what you can not see/detect. |

Leither Yiltron wrote: I'll have to disagree with you there because of the way Dust's environments are constructed, and we'll just wait until the data shakes out. Shared squad vision with Active Scanners is enabled, which is a nerf by what I can tell. Right now I believe that they reveal scanned targets to your entire team.
Yep, that is how active scanners will work, but they are being given new information interface, which isn't a real big thing but it helps a little. We have separation of squads and team for a reason, besides, I think they have much bigger scanners planned that do the whole team thing. |
