Ok, I'm asking because I thought I might have figured out a fit but it still feel like tissue paper. So any advice on the fit would be appreciated.
Highs.
Active Heat Sink II Wavelength Active Scanner.
Lows.
2 x N Type Active Hardeners. 60mm Reinforced Polycrystalline Plates Light Efficient Armor Repair Unit
Turrets.
3 x Adv Accelerated Missile Launchers.
Not entirely sure if I'm just lacking skills to make this more resilient or what. Tried fitting a a bigger plate, that was a no go. |

I'd run that fit on the lows but add a shield extender to the high even if it means leaving a single high empty as you lack the pg/cpu fo more. Your armour is 20% weaker than shields to swarms and 10% weaker to Forge Guns. You need that shield buffer to take the sting out of those hits. |

^ yeah, lose the sink, it's redundant, if possible fill the highs with a extender and an afterburner, despite what judge says (good advice though it is) I personally prioritise keeping my ship alive, boosting out if range is one of the most effective ways to do that, then again that's how I like to fly, make a choice based off your own flight style. Also depending on how often you have gunners it may be worth losing the ADV side turrets, to save on ISK and PG cost. |

I should say that i am a Python player mainly, although with 16 million SP ALL in dropships I am fully specced and experienced into both types. My preference for the shield tank due to the inherent resists and the speed means that I play an aggressive style. You can't fit a caldari ADS with an afterburner as it takes up too valuable a high slot.
gbghg is correct when he says choose a style that suits your play. Hit and run, hang and hunt.. whatever. But either way I think a shield extender is a good choice. If you can't have afterburners and a shield Ext then go with the one that suits you. |

Ok.
Yeah I'm starting to wish I'd gone down the shield route as the armor based vehicles really do feel second rate.
Thanks for the input. |

Armor dropships definitely are not second grade. Their landing gear may be, but the rest isn't. The ability to fit an afterburner while running a competitive tank is a huge feat you should definitely try to incorporate in your playstyle. |

You an fit a AB to a python, but you do sacrifice significant tank, I personally think it's worth it, but that's just how I like to fly my ships. Both the incubus and python have their own strengths, in many ways armour is actually the better one. The pythons best at air to air, it'll demolish you in a dogfight so be wary going up against one, but on a air to ground role the jncubus is by far better, you can tank more forge guns round then the python and you take less knock back than the python when you do get hit, it also handles much better than the python, and strangely enough the incubus is also the better speed tanker. |

I disagree with you here. I have run the math and only in a "perfect storm" is Gallente better at damage absorption. They can tank the same number of forge hits as caldari. In some fits you have more health left after hit two, but hit 3 is often fatal for both ships, less if they are not fitted with duel hardeners. Ill post up the damage charts to support my statements. The charts do not support better tank ability for Gallente. As for handling better, they are smoother but they are much slower.

As for the rest of your post, my experience disagrees, depending on your fit a 2 shot from a forge gun often knocks you down into armour, if your fit is light on tanking mods it can take you into armour burn as well, that's nearly always fatal for pythons, on an incubus on the other hand the fact that most fits will be carrying a repper means that's not an issue, and the modules longer lasting nature means you can take the second hit and rep past it. I've had armour dropships survive ridiculous amounts of damage, falling as low as 0 armour in some cases and survive, shield ones tend to die much quicker when they get hit by forge guns in my experience.
Caldari ships gets an inherent resistance to swarms I know, and that gives them better survivability to them, but asides from that and a higher base acceleration gallente has all the advantages. Just because it has better numbers on paper doesn't mean that it performs better in game. |

It's already been said, but given his fit, the heat sink provides no benefit at all; the incubus provided has missiles equipped. |
