I was wondering what the views of CPM0 are on the current issue of AFK farming, and how, in your opinion, would you resolve it?

Here is a thread I made stating my own views and opinions, but I'm curious as to what yours are.

Am I to understand that what you've said to CCP on the community's behalf is a secret?

He's saying that there's something happening behind the scenes regarding afking, possibly some kind of fix (maybe?), and anything he might say could infringe on the NDA, hence he is taking the safe option and not saying anything.

Either that or he can't be bothered to write up a response and is taking the easy way out.

Just opinions, no patch notes or anything.

Anyways, you should give the thread I linked a read. It's actually not generating a pile of troll posts, which is nice.

 IWS is just silly sometimes!

There's a 'fix' for AFK'ing coming in 1.4. We don't have much more details than that we are allowed to share. (Not because they said no, but we've heard about it twice (once in a very vague manner, which we were granted permission to talk about, and once in a still unclear, yet more specific manner, which we have not yet had a chance to request permission to talk about. We're going to ask for permission, once we clarify.)

Anyways, I say "fix" because I'm unsure how effective it will be. The gist of it though... Is that AFK'ers will be kicked from the match.

This is apparently something that a macro controller and/or rubber band will not be able to circumvent.

I'm not sure if you've gone through the thread I linked in the first post, but an update like that is something I was trying to avoid. It's fixing a symptom and not the actual issue that's causing it.

I do appreciate the information, but I was just looking for some opinions on the issue rather than ask "when is this coming?".

 In that case...

Personally.. I think the concept of being able to mess with a team or group in anything that has persistent consequences is flat out -awesome- and the ability to sabotage their efforts is sweet.

AFK'ing is one such method of giving the finger to a team.

However, I take issue with how rewarding it is. It's pretty dumb that you can usually profit more (ISKwise, at least) from AFK'ing than actually playing the game. The other area I take issue with, is that if you're going to give someone the finger, they need to have the ability to punch you in the face, so to speak.

The role of the saboteur should not be without risk or consequence, and it currently is. Which I do not like.

(I am trying to avoid commenting in how AFK'ing is currently resorted to as a result of mass player apathy, because that is a completely different ball of wax, cause by it's own issues elsewhere)
