An Idea for the future.
Instead replace with options to customize your weapon, for any of you who have played Ghost recon future soldier you know what I'm thinking of.
Different ammo types
Different barrels for long and short range engagements
Different firing modes
Different cammos
things like what I put above would allow you to craft your own weapon for different situations and deepen the rpg side of dust.
Thoughts? |

I wouldn't want the types removed, they provide solid baselines (even if in some cases balance still needs to be found).
That being said the sort of customizations you're talking about are being planned for the Tech3 system which is in the works (ETA SoonTM) and I completely agree that adding such an ability to customize aspects for a price is a great way to diversify the game play experience so +1 to that concept.

they can let weapon types and call them presets, the normal version will be a "hull" and we will customize it, the burst, breach and assault will be pre customized weapon. |

lol Black ops II and World at war allows this (I find them harder to use actually).
@OP: I was rdy to bash da hell out of you when I read the title XD. The idea is solid, I like it. Now to expand the thread a little with a simple question. Exactly what attachments/mods could each individual weapon have? And would these attachments be placed in separate slots and/or use up CPU/PG?
`Sigh. Just another fun game of DUST. |

not sure if you have played the latest ghost recon but in this they have a 'gunsmith' feature where you can add things like ammo types and items to enhance your weapon in certain areas , this however has negative effects as well like adding a larger barrel increasing damage over range but making the weapon heavyer and as such slowing you down but also making it more stable. also the more advanced the weapon the more mods you can add making getting those weapons benefital as for example say the adv sniper equivalent can equip armor piercing rounds while the std rifle would not have that ability. some mods also can not be placed on certain weapon classes even if you have them if it just don't make sense exs: sniper scope on a shotgun, or would make it to powerful exs:full auto firing mode on a sniper. for dust i was thinking of the attachments being put on the weapon itself but having the attachments take extra or less cpu from the suit depending on what you add kinda like the weapon variants we have now.

I do recall ccp saying something like this was in the plans, but that was closed beta and not a word from them since. I would love this, tweaking a weapon to your individual play style would make my day, seriously. |

The title makes me think OP is stupid. The OP itself is exactly what I want. One would suggest a title change. I have heard it is in the works but I am thinking its coming out after our mechs. |

I think this just shows how much people use the AR. Most other weapon types would not make any sense to have these kinds of mods to them. Except maybe the SMG. |

The other weapon types could indeed have a gain from this kind of change.

Each weapon could get sets of unique mods, to create multiple variations.
Shotgun: Flywheel, charge up like forge gun, no jump, no sprint but when you release you get a 2-3 shot rapid burst, requires longer wait afterwards.
Active Choke, turns into slug shot better range higher alpha lower dps,
And add as many as you could think of. |

Assault Rifle:
Box Mag: Higher Mag, Slower Reload
50 Cal Rounds: Much Higher Damage, Slower ROF, slower Reload, prehaps even 5 feedback damage a shot
Tracer Rounds: Visible bullet stream, makes hip fire easier
Fire Type Selector: Allows choice of semi-auto, burst, auto (can't be changed in match)
HMG:
BulletGuard: Deflects bullets, covers third of hit box (lower torso), reduces speed of dropsuit
Triple Barrel Array: Lowers Heat Rate, Slightly Higher ROF, Much Wider Spread
Artillery Barrel: Drastically Improves Damage and Range, Drastically reduces ROF and Heat Rate
Bipod: Deployable Bipod, Stops Movement, Slightly Improves all attributes
Sniper Rifle:
Spotter Scope: Add on scope, lower zoom, can switch between both scopes for improved tac sniping
Tracker Round: 20 Damage, Enemy becomes tagged, appears on squad tacnet for 1min
Engineer Scope: Allows enemy equipment to be spotted, no tac net info for infantry
Bolt Action Assembly: Removes Mag and Reload (no need to leave scope), ROF at least doubled
Just a few Ideas of Mine!! |
