OH Guess what run militia sniper... Guess what they can tank heavy suits with their sniper... OH run vehicles... OH guess what with the commando suit they can run swarm launchers now with their snipers... Oh run in a pack.... Guess what... If a member of your pack dies from a sniper your pack becomes that much weaker in advancing on enemy posts. Oh use your Vehicle to block shoots when your hacking... Guess what Commando suit dude... oh Sniping takes skill.... Yes but not as much skill as in battlefield 3 since you have to compensate for bullet drop and the prone position which this game does not have making sneaking past lines that much harder... Why do people think the K/D leaderboards are so messed up because of the effective killing strategies the sniper can be... Oh Yes the sniper doesn't help the opposing team since he is not boots on the ground.... Oh guess what yes he is because not only is he earning WP for the Orbital strike he is keep enemies off objectives, helping squadmates proceed when attack objectives, providing intel on enemy positions, and finally killing the enemy which is another way to win the damn game modes.
Ah, redline sniping - basically, there are two categories of those.
There's people with severe loss aversion who don't mind if they contribute little to their teams because they can't stand getting killed a few times. But, there are very few maps in which sniper can stay behind redline and contribute to his team regardless of how the battle is developing. Therefore, those snipers are not the ones to whine about.
The other kind of redline sniping is when a team gets dominated, all spawn points captured except those behind redline. In that case, sniper usually cannot position himself anywhere else but behind redline. However, I really fail to understand why people whine when they get killed in such instances. If you are already totally dominating the match, what the hell is forcing you to push ahead and risk getting killed by redline snipers? I suppose it's just plain greed for kills. Why not simply camp the objectives and wait for the opponent to make a move. Behind cover, of course.
As for counter sniping in general... yes, another sniper is usually the best tool for sniper removal. When sniping is concerned, it usually comes down to snipers duking it out between themselves to see which ones get to help their teams, and which ones get to spend the battle covering behind walls/hills.
As for some of your other ideas - bullet drop seems pretty ridiculous on a weapon that fires flechettes at hypersonic speeds, at ranges up to 600m. Also, prone position would certainly be more beneficial to snipers, then people trying to cross their lines of fire. A (good) sniper is already hard to detect. Allowing him to go prone... not a good idea. |

How is the KD ratio broken? And, for that matter, why do you care anyway? What does KD grant you? Is that the objective of the game?
If it's WP accrual that worries you, snipers are very rarely the top WP scorers in battles since they usually don't get WPs for anything else other than kills. Unless of course, they manage to get 20+ kills per match, and that doesn't happen regularly even to the best of them.
As for the bullet drop - how are kills vague if there is no bullet drop? What does that even mean? If sniper rifle tech lore in DUST was that they're actually beam laser rifles, would you still insist on bullet drop? |
