Thanks, Aizen. I tried it out the Exo-5 MD today on an Advanced Gallente Scout w/Toxin SMG sidearm. Played it like a shotgunner, averaged 2-3 KDR, and made the following observations:
The MD deals damage far more reliably than a SG. The MD is substantially more forgiving than a SG. The MD is better at dispatching fatties than a SG. The MD is absurdly effective against scouts. So much so, I tried not to use it against them. The MD's effective range opens up numerous combat tactics unavailable to a SG. The MD is substantially better suited for scoutly combat acrobatics than a SG. The MD's psychological affect is comparable to the Chromosome SG's (folks don't take SG Scouts seriously anymore).
I love shotgunning, but the shotgun lets me down far too often for me to trust it. Closing the gap as a Scout is a big risk; if your Shotgun decides to misfire or your target turns out to be proto, you're dead dang near every time. I can see CQC Scouts benefiting greatly from this weapon, as there's less risk and equivalent reward involved in using it.
IMHO, the MD is hands down a better Shotgun than a Shotgun.
I'll likely run with it until the SG is fixed or the MD is nerfed. Both should be a Dev priority in my book.

I just went prof2 in shotguns and reached the ADV min assault suit. I have noticed pretty bad hit detection with the shotgun, but I figured I just needed more time with it.
The Uprising 1.0-1.3 Shotgun is the worst incarnation of the Shotgun in my FPS experience.
I'm holding out hope that the Devs will address this soon. I don't think they did it on purpose; CQC mechanics are out-of-whack, and I'm sure they're working out the bugs.
