Matari held protests outside the facility at which the student, Kinhar Elokur, is being held.
Authorities have clarified that they are holding Mr. Elokur out of a belief that Mr. Elokur's actions went beyond legally permissible self-defense-- that is, that he continued the fight when his attackers attempted to flee. |

I find myself agreeing with this statement, unfortunately. I do find it a bit suspicious that he killed 3 in self defense, but there is no evidence to support the Federation claims.
I pray that these recent tensions can be settled peacefully, but I fear the Federation is about learn first hand the dangers of their unchecked "freedom." |

What evidence are you referring to? It is not disputed whether he did or did not kill those men. He certainly did.

Again, I do not understand what you are talking about. It seems as if you are just regurgitating your sermons. If he truly did act in self defense, then we will deem it so. If he did not, there will be adequate punishment for the murders he committed. |

Mister Hastings, I agree he most certainly did murder those 3 Federation citizens by all accounts. However there is no evidence supporting it being anything more than self defense, yet the Federation is holding this man prisoner as though as though it was more. That is the non-existing evidence I speak of. Worse yet, he has been directly handed over to the Black Eagles - heaven knows what goes on beyond those doors. |

If they're gonna gang up on a guy, there's no such thing as a disproportionate response. After running away the cowards would probably just get together to ambush him again. Also serves them right for starting something with a stronger man. |

All I believe Brother Yassavi to have meant is that the Gallente have not truly seen the volatility of the Matari people first hand, they are a young race, newly uplifted, and given a foreign social and political structure to supplement their already tribal sense of self.
The dangers of freedom will become apparent, however against I believe that he means not that oppression is superior, but control and moderation, as well as a conservative people ingrained with the tenets of loyalty and respect would not face these issues. |

Yet another way to raise tensions between our people, I'm finding it harder and harder to believe that there isn't someone or something behind all this. |

Those tensions have been there for years, decades, but it takes a spark to set the woods alight. Is that spark the result of a storm? Or is it something some mastermind intended?
The xenophobic fool who shot Karin Midular would no doubt be pleased with his success. Perhaps that is the only mastermind required: the rest would seem to require little staging ... just a speck, a fleck, of fire.
The fire is small, but spreading. |

There is no evidence saying that he did not act in self-defense, but it is suspicious that he killed three whole men. Perhaps I did. I personally believe he did. Perhaps detainment is too harsh. But it is suspicious, nonetheless. It is being investigated and justice will be served accordingly.

What is far worse? Well, what is the alternative? One is a Totalitarian Police State, but that is highly extreme, so it could not be that. Well, perhaps a more moderate nation could form, that banned prostitution, drugs, and the like. This would be worse than we have now, for it limits the freedoms of the individual. It will cause criminal activity to spike, due to the black market and such. There is much money to be made on illegal contraband. |

If those freedoms affect the people around that individual in negative ways how can you justify giving those people the freedom that led to such negative circumstances. |

Um ... please correct me if I misunderstand, soldier, but despite the Federation's libertarian tendencies ... aren't recreational boosters and prostitution illegal in the Federation presently? Hasn't there been an ongoing sort-of war with the Serpentis and the Angel Cartel over it? |
