Its going to take time my friend dropship pilots are supposed to be smart, and not linger at one spot of the battle field too long. My ship can take about 2 1/2 proto forge gun hits and make it out alive if i act quick enough.
If you just made your toon so its going to take you some time to rank him/her up so that they can be an effective pilot. The problem i see right now is that the maps are too small, there is a redline that allows tanks to rail-ship and players to forge-snip this really becomes a one way war as the no fly zone will kill you once your timer runs out.
You also have to get in really close to use your weapons, for example my missles blow up around 115 m from the target, mind you i fly in first person and that is really close when you are zooming and booming, the weapon range for the ADS should be increased to allow for targets to be engaged at a distance. You might be saying well thats not fair, in a way it is players on the ground can see a dropship a ways away yet a pilot cannot see players on the ground because of the draw distance issue.
i also believe that there should be range limitations depending on the type of ammo you are using for example
Dum rounds should have great distance but as bullet drop increases, the damage dealt decreases when fired beyond opt range.
Explosives should have a shorter op range greater bullet drop but deliver the same explosive punch.
Rails should have the best optimal range and no bullet drop but damage drastically decreases with range.
There is yet there really isn't a place for dropships on the battle field as we know it today, like i said before the maps are too small.
You guys keep your chins up and practice don't ask others to make things easier, but rather ask yourself to get better.

you are right, dropships have no place in the game right now as it stands. if we get maps that expand for a few hundred Km, then the dropship would be a welcome form of quick insertion/evac.
you must also be aware that, in the simplest of terms, that the proto forge gun will take 3 shots before your STANDARD ship goes down. in theory, that is tanking well. the proto dropship might have a place in the world after-all, we just have to wait and see.
nice video btw, the song fits perfectly with new eden |

I'm all for ambition, but I think that's a bit out of the ballpark, my friend. |

My solution upgrade ds turrets make then a lil bit bigger, also an advanced targeting module, it will remove the 2 gunner seats and let the turrets fir on their own. The turrets will only fire at what can be seen with scanners so pilot suits should include range amplifiers and ds also add active scanner to optimize turrets |

I agree with some of what you wrote, I think that they should increase the range of DS weapons, and have more advanced targeting modules/weapons. Splash damage should also be increased because atm you need to land a direct hit to kill soft soldiers and 2-3 on proto soldiers.
I don't really notice the splash damage when i fly my ADS but i think they are working on fixing splash damage.
I think that allowing the turrets to fire by themselves would be a terrible idea it would really take away from the team work aspect of flying a drop-ship, as well as the skill required to be considered a good Pilot.
I as well as you can not wait for the pilot drop-suits, from what i have been told one suit will allow you to deal more damage, the other will allow you to absorb more damage. Range, sensor, speed, scanner, and damage modules, i think will all be part of the pilot drop-suit accessories.
New types of drop ships will also be available SOON TM. like medium, heavy, fighters but that is going to take a while.
The biggest issue i see at the moment is the fact that maps are currently not big enough to warrant the use of dropships because LAV have more of an impact (lol no pun intended) on the battlefield. LAV can kill a bit easier eg. murder taxies, and they can also transport half a squad. |
