Yesterday I was testing something interesting with a corpmate. We wanted to see if you could get a HAV onto a dropship and then fly it to someplace. When we first started, he simply tried to see if he could rock me while I was hanging off an edge. It appeared that whatever he tried to do he simply could not rock me.
So then we tried it with an LAV, and we simply found a nice building I can drive my LAV off of repeatedly. He then parked his dropship next to the edge and I carefully approached him and drove off the edge. We performed multiple trials, but it seemed that I would always fall off. Wherever I landed on the dropship, I seemed to push down until I slipped off. Once this was deadly as I landed probably somewhere to the right of his center of mass because I caused him to roll over onto his side and fall to the ground, blowing him up.
It was during this testing that I thought "Wouldn't it be great if we could pilot our own RDVs?" I don't know how you would call one in to be honest, as a Bolas carrying a Bolas would seem silly. But imagine the possibilities. You can now quickly transport vehicles from one location to another. Perhaps you can even save a friendly vehicle from destruction and fly them away to safety.
A pilot-able Bolas would be operated by a single person with zero weapon systems, but it can be outfitted with modules, just like any other vehicle to make it more durable during vehicle transportation. Perhaps some Jovians would greatly help when transporting a HAV.
How to give Bolas pilots WPs would be a challenge though. Caps will have to be implemented, just like the logi triage WP cap. But it would be awesome to receive WPs from bringing a friendly vehicle back to safety. Perhaps the Bolas pilot can lose WPs if the vehicle being transported gets blown up.

Prangstar RND wrote:oh please god no. you clearly haven't thought this idea through. Just imagine how many spiteful people would destroy your vehicle. Also teamkilling would be enabled because of it, as you can drop the vehicle on a blue dots head. The list of bad things that will bring it is too long to mention. If you don't want to be picked up by a random blueberry, you will simply drop yourself. You will have the option to drop yourself. And in doing so, you make the pilot lose any potential WPs as well as rendering him unable to pick you up again for a specific amount of time.
I should also add that picking someone up wouldn't be instantaneous either. It would take a few seconds, during which the vehicle operator can cancel this and will have the same effect as dropping by themselves as well.
I really don't see this as a viable vehicle for a lone wolf because nobody will want to be picked up by a blueberry. This would work very nicely for squads because there will be communication between both pilots.
I might remake this thread entirely after I've perhaps written it more carefully, as this is only a day-old idea, but I find that this would be extremely valuable for cooperative team play. |
