Previously, I had promised myself not to deviate from my Dropsuit Upgrades SP for a while, but I could not resist. Plus, I needed some variety in game from the vanilla AR (snore), and the boombooms of the MD (my long time weapon of choice). Also, the Minnie assault suit was starting to get a little itchy, I needed to get it to the shop for a new coat of duct tape, and lets face it, the Minmatar Light frame is pretty sweet looking.
People say the scout shotgun is hard mode. I agree to the utmost; however, not because it requires balls of steel (insert duke nukem clip), but because the gun is just as unreliable as the MD was a few months ago. I overcame that mess by skilling into ARs due to their reliability when dealing with the MD and assault suit. I've found the best way to overcome every engagement as a scout is to fully expect it to fail horribly and painfully. You won't kill that guy with a sliver of health in one hit so you can move on to the next guy who is turning around in one move because it's just not going to register when you need it to. I find myself, on top of planning an escape route, planting traps on that route ahead of time in hopes to survive the chase after.
That being said, thank god RE's are working properly as well. I'm kidding, they're pretty unreliable this build as well. I could start singing and dancing in a sea of reds, they'd be none the wiser, and it isn't until i toss out an RE they notice me. A remote explosive that would have leveled an entire squad due to my master sneakery. I then wonder if shotgunning would have yielded better results before my death. I ultimately conclude it was silly of me to have considered success in a situation that made use of the scouts every advantage. I'm not one to get pissed off a video game but shotgunning has definitely caused me to want to punch an infant.
Don't get me wrong, I am in love with the scoutgun scout fit. It complements my play style but is very tough on the wallet (and sanity at times). In my assault suit I profit in the millions while as a scout it took me forever to break 1M profit. I don't care about my K/D (though honestly I'm going 3 to 5 KDR when it seems detection is in my favor) but I've got some things in the work that require me to be a little more weary on the wallet. I really just want to know how you dudes are profiting (if you are) as full time scouts. I dedicated this week to just being a scout and seemed to only make a steady income while running STD gear as it yielded the exact same results for me with less of an ISK investment. Perhaps I am doing something wrong. Perhaps the serpentine is not yet strong enough with me. Expect to see me in Scouts United.
Also I'd like to add, on top of the hit detection, the dudes who do the lightning fast left/right strafe with their keyboards are bullkitten.
