So, I've made a recent venture into scouts suits and shotguns this week due to the 2x event. Previously, I had promised myself not to deviate from my Dropsuit Upgrades SP for a while, but I could not resist. Plus, I needed some variety in game from the vanilla AR (snore), and the boombooms of the MD (my long time weapon of choice). Also, the Minnie assault suit was starting to get a little itchy, I needed to get it to the shop for a new coat of duct tape, and lets face it, the Minmatar Light frame is pretty sweet looking.
People say the scout shotgun is hard mode. I agree to the utmost; however, not because it requires balls of steel (insert duke nukem clip), but because the gun is just as unreliable as the MD was a few months ago. I've found the best way to overcome every engagement is to fully expect it to fail horribly. You won't kill that guy with a sliver of health in one hit so you can move on to the next guy who is turning around in one move because it's just not going to register when you need it to. I find myself, on top of planning an escape route, planting traps on that route ahead of time in hopes to survive the chase after.
That being said, thank god RE's are working properly as well. I'm kidding, they're pretty unreliable this build as well. I could start singing and dancing in a sea of reds, they'd be none the wiser, and it isn't until i toss out an RE they notice me. A remote explosive that would have leveled an entire squad due to my master sneakery. I then wonder if shotgunning would have yielded better results before my death. I ultimately conclude it was silly of me to have considered success in a situation that made use of the scouts every advantage. I'm not one to get pissed off a video game but shotgunning has definitely caused me to want to punch an infant.
Don't get me wrong, I am in love with the scoutgun scout fit. It complements my play style but is very tough on the wallet (and sanity at times). In my assault suit I profit in the millions while as a scout it took me forever to break 1M profit. I don't care about my K/D (though honestly I'm going 3 to 5 KDR when it seems detection is in my favor) but I've got some things in the work that require me to be a little more weary on the wallet. I really just want to know how you dudes are profiting (if you are) as full time scouts. I dedicated this week to just being a scout and seemed to only make a steady income while running STD gear as it yielded the exact same results for me with less of an ISK investment. Perhaps I am doing something wrong. Perhaps the serpentine is not yet strong enough with me. Expect to see me in Scouts United.
Also I'd like to add, on top of the hit detection, the dudes who do the lightning fast left/right strafe with their keyboards are bullkitten.

In an assault suit, dying more than 7 happens pretty infrequently if I run with a decent squad. Also in those circumstances the payouts are generally 300k plus. Long story short, I profit over the course of lets say the length of weekly cap as opposed to over the course game to game. |

I think this is where the biggest problem in my current tactics with the play style is. Maybe I'm not valuing my own clone. |

BARDAS wrote:[quote=Cyrius Li-Moody][quote=BARDAS] Another factor to consider right now is hit detection for the Shotgun and Nova Knives are god awful "terribad". I seen obvious hits not register at all or register and not apply any damage. Stationary targets are much easier to kill like snipers and people hacking.
Yes, currently, I am seeing that hit detection is honestly the biggest killer of the scotgun scout.
Constant scenerio for me for most well tanked suits that aren't OHK from headshot/behind:
1. Flank around, find a solo target, move in for the kill. 2. First shot connects, his shield is down or mostly down. 3. Second shot registers as connected on my end, no damage dealt. 4. I assess that within 6 shots I have plenty of opportunities to kill him before I can flee. 5. I shoot again he is either dead or by this time he is back pedaling and SMGing me in the face 6. If the environment allows, I fully disengage and run away. if not I move to... 7. I engage doing bursts of sprint / zig zags in an attempt to get into shotgun range which I dunno what that is. I just try to get closer so I can strafe/aim 8. Panic mode has initiated as he is regaining shields or reloading his main, I begin firing wildly 9. I am dead insure if I died due to my tactics or luck just wasn't on my side. |

Chunky Munkey wrote:My playstyle of choice when using the light frame relies on the aptly named the Leeroy principle.
This principle exploits that brief human moment of "what in all the f*ck?" experienced when one witnesses actions that no sane person would perform. E.g. Charging a HMG while your shields are low. You know that face dogs make when you make a strange sound? You need to find a way to make people react like that, and then turn on the badassery. Groups of enemies will either all turn on you, the following anarchy is surprisingly easy to exploit, or they'll ignore you expecting others to pick up the slack.
Most importantly of all: expect to die. Enemies who don't fear death are unpredictable and terrifying. When 5people hide around a corner waiting for shields to recharge, they tend not to expect a scout to jump over the wall into the middle of them.
when in a STD suit this is the exact strategy I use when there is a stalemate. |

Revelations 514 wrote:Nailed it! I have been running SG Scout since early beta. For this build, and quite a few before it, you nailed it right on the head. In this build in particular, RE's are sh*t due to the equipment delay. Don't forget next build everyone will get an upgrade to their turn/strafe, so be ready for even more punishment.
The equipment delay does suck, but I feel that's not the issue that bothering me the most. I guess I try to "counter" the delay by having my RE in hand as I sneak up behind guys. The fizzling after deploying like proximities have been doing for the last few builds is whats really contributing to a lot of my deaths and frustration.
Example scenario for me:
1.) I mine a hallway that I use as an escape path with 1 remote. I use this as a sort of "fall back plan" as I'm scouting my route/picking off guys on my way to flank the blob. 2.) I sneak up on my targets, channeling my solid snake. 3.) I toss one remote, fizzle. They either notice me and I attempt to flee or.. 4.) I overstay my welcome out of stubbornness to not accept failure as it took way too much effort to sneak up these guys and toss out another remote. 5.) If successful I bag 3 to a record 5 kills and die right after. Which I'm cool with because that was awesome. This does not happen though because it seems like if at first you don't succeed you will fail, fail again. By this time I've just angrily mashed L1 so my previously laid trap has been sprung. Sometimes I get lucky and some poor sap was standing on it. 6.) I'm dead. |

Ruthless Lee wrote: Yeah, I ... wish you'd been running shotgun (and having some of those hit detection issues) THAT match, dude!
Sorry about that. Good news is you'll probably not see me using the MD nearly as much for a while. Time for some variety. =)
Now that I see both sides of the coin I'll at least feel the pain when scouts sneak up on me when I'm in my assault suit. I played a few matches last night and I did very well in my ADV suit. I managed to get multiple 3 kill remotes sneaking up on enemies, my shotgun was connecting on almost every shot, and I killed many proto snipers in the hills while doing long flanks to outer objectives. Fun stuff.
I had better success after everyone's suggestions. The biggest one was to never attempt a fair fight. Getting 2 to 3 kills in a row on a group of reds became easy if I was patient enough to lay in wait for the right opportunity. I still had a couple of matches that left a bad taste due to hit detection.
Scheneighnay McBob wrote:Stop what you're doing and use a minmatar assault instead. Scouts now die if someone so much as looks at them.
I do have a speed tanked fit with a shotgun on my Minnie assault that I use in situations where I need to be more aggressive, but I've found it's hard to really sneak around in it. Plus that extra 1m/s and increased vertical on the scout suit is pretty fun. All in all I like both scout shotgunning and minnie assault shotgunning, but both for different reasons. |
