Short of cooking off a grenade or enabling friendly fire, the easiest way to stop AFKers is to take away the reward for AFKing.
The event running right now (2x the SP) is set in such a way as to increase the SP yield per WP obtained in the battle, without increasing the passive SP gain while in matches.
In other words... the SP/second rate is unchanged, but now War Points are worth more SP.
Why not take this idea and push it further?
Option 1 - Eliminate passive gains in battle entirely, and increase the SP->WP exchange rate to compensate. There will be no reward for joining a match and doing nothing... you'll actually need to go out and participate in order to get your payout.
Option 2 - Put a floor on WP obtained before passive SP gains kick in. For example.... you accrue passive SP in battle (SP/second) at the normal rate, however, you only get that SP awarded if you achieve a minimum amount of WP in that battle... say... 300.
I am tired of feeling like the only person pushing for objectives and seeing score boards like this at the end of matches:

something needs to be done. perhaps a minimum wp limit before any sp are earned. (pre-caplimit of course) |

those are bad options that will be easy to exploit for massive SP in the case of the former or circumvent in the case of the latter. |

I don't quite think People Understand the reasons of AFKing.
I AFK cause I want to go and do something more Important then playing a game.
Like Feed my Dogs.
Or Let them out.
Or go take a ****.
There are many things that a AFK'd person could be doing, not just Watching TV, and many times they aren't doing just cause they like pissing the team off.
Instead of these strange ways to punish AFKing, try to find ways so the guy who play are rewarded more then them.
There. |

There.
AFK players take up a spot on my team that could be used by someone actually doing something useful. If you want to feed you dogs, fine. Log out and get normal "passive" SP... 24,000/day.
But if you're in game.... be in the game.

I like this AFK solution thread much better than the other one so I'll put my idea here too.
Basically I think the whole active SP should be gotten rid of. When I say active SP I mean what you gain by doing battles. All of your SP should be passively gained just like in EVE. That creates a standard, doesn't benefit the afk'ers one bit unless they are isk farming
Now before you bash something you don't understand listen to this. There would still be passive boosters to be bought and aurum. So my thinking is for incentive to do battles you give an Aurum reward derived from WP gained from battles. I would figure this could have to be figured by CCP accounting, but I'll say something like 1 Aur per 100 WP for example. There would have to be an Aurum earned cap per character or account as well. This would limit Aur farming through WP so the system couldn't be extensively scammed.
What this would effectively do is make the costly in game currency have more flow to it. Players would accrue it, and as a bonus to playing the battles they would have the ability to use more aurum related market exchanges, like for boosters, and gear, and any other AUR options are made.
I would suspect this would promote Aur sales as well as players would then have some of what they need to say buy boosters and whatnot, so there is incentive to buy more as you already are earning some of it. This model is used in a few other games actually, and from what I've seen it makes the $currency much more widely used as people already are getting some in their pockets.
Summary: I wish this game would work like this. I think it'd make many of the totally free players look into using some of the Aur features in this game. It would give no purpose beyond a small amount of ISK to AFK, and the SP gain by all players would be on an even field with the only modification being passive boosters. |
