CREST (Carbon Restful API) is a powerful API tool that allows reading and writing that third party developers such as yourselves can go out and make apps for and do very neat things like this here...
CREST is already an extraordinarily powerful tool, if you realize it or not Dust 514 is powered by this as well which makes Orbital Strikes originating in eve possible and how Our territorial gains on the ground in Molden Heath and Faction Warfare territory affects Eve side and how Faction Warfare Activity in Eve results in spawning of battle on Dust 514 side as well as Corporation.
The absolute best part of CREST API is allowing people to do neat things with it such as.

A ground version of not only that but something streamable to Eve side so they can do their own precision strikes.

CREST Api is separate development team from Dust 514 they have little to do with the game being broken and are not dependent on Dust 514 to be even properly working.
What Dust 514 does CREST is dynamic enough to adapt to it near instantly. Nerfs, buffs, new stats requires near minimal effort. Its how people can make killboards in eve that automatically verifies kills as its fed into the third party system. People have come up with intel maps, fitting tools, fleet dps simulators and many more things. CREST is however far more powerful than previous generation able to pull far more information such as models, resources, maps, backgrounds, and even write back to eve online and dust.
You want to test fit things on your phone while on lunch break? you can, even save it to the game if the developers of crest allow for it. Your mentor has a good fit for you? he can share it with you? Got 200 items to sell? you can do it from your iphone. Possibilities are way and up there but development of CREST is very important to be continued, made more robust, and dynamic.
After all Dust 514, is CREST Powered itself. |

This is pretty significant stuff, have to admit I was pretty ignorant to its existence.
You're absolutely right in that EVE players should be able to control their own precision strikes with this. Dust side I imagine we could see some benefit when we finally get Skyfire Batteries in the game. |

So, when can I integrate CREST info into the auth section of my forum?
When can I send dustmails to people without needing my PS3 turned on?
When can I receive PC notifications and turn them into google calendar events?
When do we actually get to use CREST? |

If all goes well soon, and yes, all of those are more than possible, hell I doubt CREST would break a sweat doing what you just asked for. |

When people rage about DUST being just another 90's era vanilla shooter this is one of the things they're missing.
ATM Dust looks roughasshit from the outside, and she just barely turns over and fires up, and when she's running she shakes and coughs and smokes.
