I think it would be appropriate to implement a soft cap for the total EHP for dropsuits. By soft cap I mean that a stat (EHP in this case) get damped greatly after a certain set threshold (cap).
Assumption 1: Armor vs Shield is rougly balanced.
=> If Assumption 1 is implemented, then the total EHP could be balanced for each class of suit (Light, Medium, Heavy), reducing the FOTM buffer tanking, and making it easier for newberries to not get out-tanked (this is IMO a huuuuuuuuuuuuge problem for a FPS game). If buffer tanking is reduced, people have to try other types of tanking, such as regen tank, speed tank, scanning to not get jumped, etc. Could help diversify the game in general.
TL;DR; Penalizing EHP buffer tanking could make this game-¦s diversity floruish, and reduce the gap between long time players and newberries. |

no.
Not only no, hell no.
this arbitrarily puts a hardcap on how people are allowed to fit their suits. we already have this with diminishing returns on percentage modifying modules. We don't need a soft cap to make life easier on the people who think fitting armor plates or shield extenders is for morons.
If I can get a fatsuit up to almost LAV levels of HP that would be because I invested the time and SP into maxing the relevant skills. why should I be penalized for focusing on defense?
or why should I be punished for getting an assault suit to 600?
I have to make sacrifices to get there, which you could exploit. |

This game is not about skill, its about who stacks more extenders.
Is this an interesting meta game? NO. |

It doesn't even matter... a militia AR would still take you out in less than four seconds even if you're a fully decked out proto tanker heavy. |

+1 to the general aim, not so sure about the soft cap idea though. |

No, even in EVE, CCP finally realized its not that buffer tanking is OP for PvP, its that CCP also makes active-tanking crap everytime they rebalance it (which they are now trying to fix). active tanking has a niche, buffer tnaking is more universal, but for many thing active tanking is better, generally only for more skilled players though, i know ive seen several scouts who do VERY well active-tanked, they come in with a shotgun, take out a guy, get out, heal up, and come back in to kill his buddy.
basically, buffer= best for standing their and throwing slugs back and forth
active = best for specialist players with alot of experience, to prolong their ability to operate and harass the enemy. |
