I suggest two things to improve the new player experience:
1) Give new characters a built in sort of "Theta" booster which is automatically activated at creation, lasts 21 days, and acts like an Omega Active and Omega Passive booster. It could potentially increase ISK income by 10%-50% per game as well in light of the skill book requirements early on, but that would be a delicate balance.
2) Give new characters 750,000 SP to start with, which would allow a bit more leeway to try out different weapon types (inb4 militia ) and maybe get an extra level or two of shield/armor upgrades to improve general survivability.
... What would you guys suggest to improve the NPE? |

I think CCP should do a little research and see where the AVERAGE player is SP wise and give new players maybe 3-4M less SP. So for example if the AVERAGE player is at 8M SP than give new players 5M SP to start with.
I can also see the flaw in the system cause than people will be like that's not fair I grinded for my proto and they can start the game with proto. In the end there has to be sacrifices for this game to work. This is only a idea. If you give new players too few SP than they are worthless and will get destroyed. It's really a hard topic and with the system the game implements it's a tough design to make fair to be quite honest. |

Make matchmaking work, and give us actually interesting game modes.
That way the game is fun to play, and people get separated into appropriate brackets in hi sec matchmaking.

I think that this is a good idea.....
IFFFF they properly explain to new players why they are getting accelerated SP for a limited time only. Because otherwise you'd have a ton of new players coming on the forums and complaining (rightly) when their SP gains slow down to a crawl.
I think that's something that's really missing from the new player experience over all. CCP needs to EXPLAIN to the new players what's going on. Like it'd be nice if something told them 'you're starting off in the Academy with other new recruits, you will only be in the Academy for a short period of time before the full game is available to you'. And then when you leave the Academy, it gives you some sort of message that 'congratulations, you have now graduated!'. |

this ^^^. I played a few rounds with a guy in my squad last night who never realized he had been through the Academy already.
I think a walk-through section, a 10 minute PvE level to explain squad orders, etc as well as get a feel for the controls before starting PvP Academy. There should also be a Firing Range (maybe in the market instead of Academy) to try out the weapons before committing to dropping SP and maybe show you what gear you are working towards.

Give new plays sacks filled with ********* so they:

A. Tutorials that explains the various modules and how they work and stack. B. Better starter fits including one for each class I.e. Assault, Scout, Heavy and Logi C. A decent amount of time to practice in the Academy as well as assimilate the knowledge just received from the tutorials D. Couple of million SP as a graduation gift when leaving the Academy. E. Better and more effective match making so they do not get stomped all the time for the next 2+ months.
Lots more but that will do for now. |

These are all great suggestions as well. Well also, as far as the firing range, it's kind of crazy that every weapon doesn't have a militia variant at this point. Why is it that some weapons you can try right off the bat, but others you need to sink SP into to even see if you'll like it? |
