When using the SR I noticed something strange. Up close it tore through enemy shields no problem, but when approaching max range it could barely put a dent in shields when fully charged. (from combat experience one fully charged shot at close range rips though enemy shields and a portion of their armor, but one fully charged shot does less than a quarter to shields at max range) (I confirmed this by testing it on a neutral turret in Ambush OMS)
This is very strange because when you take in all aspects of the gun it appears that it is meant to be a Marksman Rifle.
Here thay are
- It's chargeable meaning that taking time to line up a shot (or waiting for someone to poke their head out from cover) is rewarded if you also charge at the same time
- It can overheat, shying users away from spray n pray close quarter situations and making you instead, pick individual targets to take out from a distance
- Its sight makes for better accuracy at long ranges than it does at close quarters
So why, with all these pointing it towards being a longer range weapon, does its damage decrease as distance increases? |

What you're noticing is the pitiful range they put on the weapon combined with a steep damage drop off after its Optimal range.
FYI charged scrambler has the same optimal range as the basic AR. |

what i dont understand is why the blaster tech (assault rifles) out ranges laser tech (scrambler rifles). they need to have their optimal ranges reversed. (and extended a bit but thats a whole nother barrel of kittens) |

Most likely due to some sort of pseudo-science that the energy of a "laser" will disperse away from the beam once released, thus reducing its effectivness at range quickly. This is the same explanation in Eve as to why Amarr lasers arent the end all of "sniper" boat fit's.

That is because Laser Rifle are three beams that are designed to focus at max range, but the SR should have a longer range than the AR. not much just a little. |

There is Hybrid Rails (long range) And Hybrid Blasters (close range) There is Laser Beams (long range) And Laser Pulses (short range)
The Scrambler is not a Beam Laser. It is not a long range weapon. It's short range Pulse Laser.
In EvE Pulse Lasers do have a slightly better range than Hybrid Blasters, but Hybrid Blasters have the most damage for their range.
And it's lower optimal than AR (that are Hybrid Blasters) is offset by the fact that Scrambler actually has higher damage for it's range. |

Beam Laser vs Pulse Laser Scrambler Pistols never got "increase damage over distance" bonus, did they?

Just thought I might want to point out, I'm not requesting that its damage increases as range does. I'm requesting that it be given a good amount of damage and that it stays at that amount no matter the range.
A damage increase as range increases buff would be *"nice", but completely unnecessary and possibly game breaking.
*I don't think I would actually like this |

It's the optimum range mate. There is a damage dropped outside of optimum range. The sr has a significantly shorter optimum range than ARs. So you find yourself in combat with a large damage decrease. For reference - the proto level Assault SR has shorter optimum range than the optimum on a militia AR. So you don't even really have medium range. The current incarnation of the weapon is short-short mid. |

You should take the time to check your lore before speaking from one's sphincter. The Pulse lasers have less falloff (on average about 1/2 that of a blaster) than a blaster, have 4 times the optimal range, do more damage to shields, cost more in the capacitor usage, and do less damage to armor.
Check you facts. |

I'm pretty nervous to tweak the ScR for fear of a nerf hammer. That said, I wouldn't mind a *slight* buff to its range but I am pretty comfortable with the damage dropoff. If I were able to do Max damage at my maximum range I seriously think the scrambler would be too good and well into TAR territory. |

From what I can tell it's supposed to do that, just be the Amarr version. Only real changes I see being done to the SR that won't make it UP or OP is to decrease the tint on the sight and remove the damage dropoff. (do the Gallente Blaster Rifles (ARs) even HAVE dropoff?)
Right now the TAR dominates at all distances within its max range, this thread has some very good points about nerfing the TAR. |
