Even though I've never played EVE, I've always been interested in it, I've read the lore and the game mechanics and found myself amazed at it, the freedom players have and the stories I get told. Since joining DUST I've spoken to both new and old EVE players and it's made me really want to play.
But I'm not thanking you for creating a game I want to play, I'm thanking you because you got me a pass on my English Lit work.
I was told to come up with a speech about whatever I wanted, it had to last atleast 5 minutes and I had to do it in front of an audience, I had two weeks to create a presentation and then present it to my class of 30 other students and my tutor. Being the hardworking fellow I am I quickly set to work by not doing anything at all, instead I played DUST (Damnit CCP.) Two days ago I realized I was screwed and become to come up with topics to present, I ended up with "The Positives and Negatives of Gaming". Having settled with a title I relaxed and played more DUST. (Damnit CCP.)
So I turned up to my English Lit class, no presentation in hand, after watching everyone do their speech I made a plan as fast as possible, bear in mind I was told explicitly I wasn't allow to "wing it", but who cares, I went up to the Desk, logged onto the computer and loaded up Youtube, got a massive EVE fight video up, and a second tab showing the EVE fanfest trailer.
Told my tutor "I've got my presentation ready, but I've forgotten it and left it at home, I remember most of it by heart and the videos I was going to use are available here, is this okay?" That's fine. So I began explaining about Gaming and how I was interested in the Social Aspect of it. I asked my class, when I say gamers, do you picture large overweight men sitting around in their room for hours on end doing nothing? They all said yes, so I played the Fanfest trailer, even my tutor loved it.
I explained about EVE, whilst playing a massive EVE fight in the background and also about DUST, about the sandbox and the metagame and really just gave every bit of knowledge I could. When my tutor called me to stop, I got a massive applause and passed it, I'm pretty sure I got some new players for DUST and EVE.
So thanks CCP! :D |
