Anybody else think that the fact that you can boost range on a weapon with a SKILL seems a bit...sketchy? My gripe with this is primarily with assault rifles. If i have the same assault rifle as someone, why can he shoot THE SAME GUN farther than i can? I can see if it were a weapon based trait (that's how it should be in my mind) and maybe higher level weapons would have a longer effective range, but the sharpshooter skill should increase accuracy/reduce dispersion, (if there was such a thing as dispersion on assault rifle) but every gun should have the same range (maybe with minor deviations due to production...) not have variable range based on your aim |

its a double edge sword, increased range and not accuracy is the lesser of the two evils. If accuracy is increased it would be compounded with the assault rifle skill and make them too accurate. IMO the sharpshooter skill should increase fall off but not optimal range and the dispersion of the AR skill would make things balance out. But that is still a theory because i don't know what the actual formula is. |

Chalk it up to being a better merc so you get better rounds. Ones that travel further and do more damage. |

Higher damage = larger caliber in same model weapon Longer range = better ballistics in same model weapon (higher quality weapon and/or ammo) Longer range in same caliber with same model weapon (all same quality) consistantly = more skilled Just my thoughts and reasoning... whatever that's worth. |

think of it as taking a high caliber sniping rifle, it has extremely long range. subject A has no training with the gun, he can hit a target 50 yards in front of him but can't hit anything beyond 100 yards ( nub with a sniper ). subject B has 10 years black ops experience and has never missed a kill with same gun, can hit a can from 1200+ yards. same gun, but better training. |

Lets be honest it doesn't make any sense in a fps game to have the same weapon have different ranges . It's one of those rpg skills that make total sense but doesn't translate well. Since eve players consider eve to be the bible or a holy work of some type. They will spend days and different ways to explain non sense. Next they will tell you it's swamp gas or the light reflecting off Venus. I truly think its there because at one point in development ccp realized every map is a open field and duct tape the situation. |

This is not an FPS though Crm234, it is an FPS/RPG hybrid. That is what it is being billed as. This actually causes things to fall in a similar line as Eve, which this game is based off of. There, the same gun, same ship, same ammo, can have a different targeting range, a different optimal, different falloff, different accuracy, and different damage, all because of different skills. |

Like i care as long as i use a laser rifle all AR's except for the tactical have a lower range then i have. I even benefit more from sharpshoter then AR users do. When i pitch up a tent on a wide open place you can try to come with your pesky AR's i pick every 1 off no matter what cause i get at the end off that laser beam a 120% efficency rating while you get maybe 10-20%. Espacially with some SP put into that skill that you mentioned. As i allready sayd with missiles: "when i can abuse it, i will use it". |

I am a skilled sniper. I look after my rifle. I clean the barrel regularly. As a result, the bullets travel further.
Maybe they should rename the skill to "Light Weapon Rifling" |

The skill is a direct cut and paste from eve. Similar skill for falloff range is trajectory analysis in eve, if we have one why not both. The sharpshooter skill works just like eve, falloff is added to optimal, so raising optimal also moves fallout further out.
It is not explained why a ship with different captain can fire the gun further either. Best explanation I heard was the gear was customized by the user based on experience. Like making custom specs for the ammo supplied by the nanohive. It's a abstraction of lots of little things, and a case of game mechanics trumping realism. Not any less realistic then boarderlands skill trees or call of duty perks making similar changes.
EvE is not a rpg any more then dust is. It's a mmo..something, closed game to it would be world of tanks that i also don't think is a rpg. |

Actually, range for a skill makes perfect sense. It doesn't affect the physical range of the weapon, no, but it does represent how good you are at hitting targets at a greater and greater distance with it. It's why there are standard rifleman, designated marksmen, snipers, etc, etc. The game doesn't track things like weapon weight, windage, breathing, etc, etc, instead using an arbitrary system like this. Makes perfect sense to me. |
