I jumped in a dropship today and went 30-0 without any turret/missile skills. There is something seriously wrong with that. The dropships are the gods of this game. If you get blown up by a dropship its because the "gods" are displeased with you.
The missile launcher on the dropships need a huge nerf. |

No the problem is that dropships can outrun swarm launchers indefinitely.
We need Missile Bombardment and Missile Projection skills, like in EVE, to boost missile flight time and velocity on Swarm Launchers. |

No the problem is that dropships can wreck an entire squad in a few seconds. I will admit that swarms need a fix but the damage output of the dropships need a huge nerf.
People say the AR is overpowered. Holy **** I could sit here and get drunk all day and still drop 20-40 kills every game in a dropship. You people are straight in denial if you think the dropships aren't OP. |

Fragmented missile can 1 shot kill a 700 hp heavy. Unbalanced damage from missiles is the problem Dropships themselves are fine. No one cares if blaster or railgun. |

You people are straigh in denial if you think the dropships aren't OP. When they can be tossed out of the sky by one rocket out of a swarm and instagibbed with a standard forge gun? Not even close. The swarm speed has always been the only issue, as well as their tracking, and the hotfix boosted speed. Once both speed and tracking are better balanced, they can introduce flares/chaff for aerial vehicles to compensate, and we'll have a nice balance between those and infantry. Other than that, all vehicles need limited ammunition counts. |

I've been complaining about dropships as a dedicated swarm launcher user, but recently started learning to fly dropships myself. I have to say, my perspective has changed a bit. Although I still agree that swarms need better tracking so that rockets don't intentionally miss dropships, I'm no longer convinced that dropships themselves are overtly OP. THE PROBLEM is that missile turrets are still insanely OP.
Fix the missile turrets and it won't matter as much that dropships are so difficult to take down because they won't be so capable as an offensive weapon. |

I finally got to pilot a militia dropship as well and found that it's not the dropship that's OP, it's the missile launchers that are OP. |

Dropships don't need a nerf, they need a complete change in role. It sucks that they're currently able to function as gunships, but if you make them unable to dodge swarms they won't be able to function as transports, either. |

They would fit the role without any crazy re-balancing shenanigans if they just had a more limited ammo count. Give them only enough ammunition to provide temporary cover for transporting soldiers, and then they have to land near a supply depot to get more ammo. All vehicles should have that constraint, really. The only reason that HAV or LAV that just goes on a running riot is able to do so is because they can just fire all around themselves with reckless abandon, never having to worry about ammo. |

CCP is planning on implementing capacitor for vehicles eventually, which will probably have a similar impact. Vehicle gets overzealous with weapons, runs out of cap, can't shoot or activate mods for a while.
I happen to believe that removing the starter AV suit will also be required for dropships to have a realistic presence on the field. People don't realize how fragile a dropship can be when it can actually be hit. |

Let's ask the question why a Dropship prefers to fly around in circles bombing **** out first?
Ever tried to fly a Dropship into an LZ only to have it flipped instantly by a Swarm or taken out in 2 hits by a Forge Gun, hell have half of you guys ever tried to fly a dropship fullstop?
Hell, make my guns weak, give me points for people spawning in my dropship and stop making me flip so god damn easily and I'll stop smashing you guys with my gunners, so I can actually play my part. |

How Limited would it be though, that's the thing.
People will still complain "Dropships are OP" even with Limited Ammo, Let's say each gun had 8 missiles per restock (reasonable I suppose), My gunners will go atleast 6 kills each, quickly drop back, restock, go again. Honestly the only option I see for this is either removing missiles from Dropships or making them extremely weak. Or we could try making them weak based on range. |

Missiles in EVE are also guided. It seems pretty clear that DUST missiles aren't the same as EVE missiles, so there's no reasons they can't require cap.
Missile launchers will probably end up seeing some kind of nerf eventually anyway since they're way more useful than rails and blasters in almost every situation.
The problem with ammo limits is that some maps don't have supply depots, and some that do have them in places a dropship can't realistically fit. Ground troops can get around this with nanohives or, since they can lose a suit or two and still turn a profit, simply by dying. A vehicle without access to a supply depot is crippled (if not out of the fight entirely) as soon as it uses what would presumably be a pretty limited supply of ammo.
Personally I think a cooler way to implement ammo for vehicles is to add in a cargo bay that contains all of your rounds and if you run out you have to call in more via an RDV. That has the added benefit of allowing use of specialty ammo types.
Or cap, because it's going to end up the same way. |

Yup, turrets are OP. Agree 100%. Now should they do major changes in balance right before the tourney? No. The game is high DPS/low health all around. Everything kills and dies fast. Don't change that for one thing and ignore the rest. |

I've tried all turrets to the dropship and in all honesty the reason I think a lot of people use rocket is that they can see where they go and adjust aim.
The railguns have no feedback on where your shots are landing and the range of blasters are laughable. If the blasters were more on par with the HMG, the sound, the look, I mean who doesn't like using a mini-gun. The blaster just don't feel cool, gattling guns are cool and maybe make railguns shoot more than three times with some sort of indication where they are hitting. |

You clearly havent shot swarms at a drop ship today since the hot fix. While its easier to kill now drop ships also die way more easily because swarms are fast as kittens.

the KITTEH they dont!!! they soft enough as is if the general consensus is too stupid to realize that swarm launcher is not their only way to take down dropships then they all deserve to die horribly. if dropships get a nerf they would be more fragile then LAV's |

Simply change them for mass drivers. Now they'll clear a landing zone, but be crap at range. Changes to blasters and railguns in this thread seem sound. No damage changes, just visual feedback. |

Swarms are fast and the ships are slow. They wallow at their laughable service ceiling of a couple hundred feet. At that height they can barely move forward as they are using every ounce of thrust just staying up. Tilt forward to accelerate and you lose enough altitude to strike any moderately tall object or hill. Speed up on the craig ap and you are forced down at the level of the rocks.
One hit they are tossed around like a rag doll, slammed into objects or made easy prey for another set of swarms.
I tried sneaking around low, but the first set to hit my ship invariably slammed it into terrain. It didn't matter if I could sustain the missile damage, I couldn't sustain the collision.
I'm trying to adapt, but it isn't working so far.
I'm thinking true adaptation might require HAV's or tricked out LAV's with killer missile turrets. Look for those to be nerfed next. |

Watch out what you want otherwise we have another tank sceanrio where armor tanks have beeing sacrificed. Seriously you can take out any armor tank with a militia swarm launcher and i dont want this to happend to dropships. As long the AV grenade bug is there i will pilot my dropship end of the line. Simply cause Av grenades are not capable of flying 20 meters into the air. You guys complain about dropships but did you took a look on other vehicles? I tried to field a Saga LAV just with the result that every 1 spams av grenades on the ground and the same goes with tanks. You guys only cry about missiles are OP cause they hit you from above and not from infront where you can hide in cover and do pop shots with a swarm launcher or forgegun. Another thing is that swarms fly around corners which is just brutal for LAV's and annoying for tank drivers. Make the swarms like on the E3 build and we have a perfect balance against aireal and ground vehicles. And in real life if you get shot by a RPG you get ripped apart. Those are vehicle high power weapons. If you nerf missiles then you have the same situation like with railguns or blasters. Any more nerfing to vehicles will make them useless to 100%. |

Well Tony we did say more range for blasters would be good thts neither a dmg buff or a visual feedback change. For now just temp increase swarm speed as long as their speed isn't relative to the dropship I saw in another thread tht someone using afterburners got outrun by swarms which shouldn't happen IMO, missiles can't magically speed up mid flight. |

Actually, if they make launchers generate heat like the Railgun and blaster turrets do, it'd probably go a long way to keep people from spamming them constantly. Or at least reserve them to shooting other vehicles, or installations, or large threats. |

10 seconds of carelessness in a dropship will see you shot out of the sky. That doesn't even factor in forge guns, or the fact that a dropship outrunning swarms isn't all that effective at anything else. There definitely needs to be some changes to their presence on the field, and a turret nerf definitely isn't one of them. |

i know, i don't believe people are still trying this... As soon as i saw a dropship easily out run my swarms at the start of this build, guess what? I USED FORGE GUN! And i haven't looked back since.. |

Yes I hate getting hit by rocket rain. But I know they hate when I hit them with two quick shots from my forge gun. They hunt me while I hunt them. Works for me.
Though it would be nice if they made other weapon turrets more viable. |
