for this game to be successful, it really need to fix some of the basic things for it.... for example the hit detection is so bad. (i was 2 metres away from a guy and i shot 5 bullets with a shotgun and failed to get him once, just because he was moving in a circle.... ) and trying to switch to a different weapon quickly is very hard as well... i realy hope this game will be successful, but little things like that get the shooting gamers away. :) |

Beta. Will be at least as good as the next door shooter, certainly better judging fro the amount o crying these places have, and devs who have readers payed to filter this. |

Maybe his skills was far superior than yours? Moving faster than you turning around (I've done this just recently with Scout dropsuit against Heavy. Or it was lag.). Plus, IIRC, there are skills reducing size of your hitspot. |

Hit detection is fine. Try aiming, or not using the scope. People have no troubles shooting me in a scout suit, maybe I need to up my skills on the radius. You coul be lagging, i been lagging all day |

I'll disagree with you hit detection is a bit messed up still. When shooting a target and you get a shield flare with no damage registered, unloading a weapon on someone their shields flashing blue and no damage taken. I've even been in a few fights where I got snuck up on got shot by a HMG and no damage, turned around and dropped a heavy with 3 shotgun blasts. Hit detection sporadically goes wonky. |

I can attest to this, been using the charge sniper rifle and there have been multiple occasions where I have an opposing scout in Type I/Militia Scoutarmor sitting still in the middle of my sights (charge rifle can drop anyone with this type of armor in one fully charged shot as far as I've encountered) yet when I fire all I get is shield flash, missing shot from counter, and 0 damage.
So far my "confirmed" (AKA: within 100 meters) tally of these wasted shots goes to 3-4 against light, 2 against medium armor (1 at point-blank range from behind) and 3 against heavy class dropsuits. Sometimes it happens against the same target 3-4 times before it starts registering the hits normally again (tested against scout dropsuit @230m, took 7 shots to kill, 5 with shield flicker, at which point I got sniped) |

Now I'm not saying I'm a perfect shot but I think I can confidently say there have been a good number of occasions where I feel that I should have got a hit but didn't, whether this is dodgy hit detection or something else I don't know.
Maybe because of my skill rating (I.e. lvl 1 or 2 in some cases) even though I'm on target in the scope the "dice throw" decides I've missed, a higher skill rating would mean the dice throw lands more hits than misses?
I think part of the problem is you don't see where the bullet hits the ground around them, a wall, etc. or does it do that and I've not noticed? Also as the rifle goes perfectly still after a second or so, the target isn't moving and you've lined up the shot you think you can't miss. Maybe if there was a very slight wander in the rifle at lower levels you would understand how you've missed. Higher suit skills would bring less wander and hence more accuracy? It's probably more of a psychological tweak rather than programmatic.
I think from a psychological point-of-view in other games a good player starting out can still hit lots of times, they just need more rounds to actually kill someone. This makes you feel like the accuracy is in your hands and good accuracy is a result of your game play and ability. As you progress through the game you just get more powerful rifles so it requires less hits to take someone out but it usually comes with compromise like reload time. So again you feel like the accuracy is down to you and you've earned the ability to kill with less rounds and can account for the slow reload time because you don't miss. This is in fact probably less "realistic" as lesser weapons will have shots that vary in direction, it's consistency that makes a good weapon but it possibly makes for better gameplay? In my opinion I quite like the idea of having a more "realistic" (I.e. as it stands now) mechanic just better feedback as to where the shot went and thus why I missed.
So in short I think if it were just made more obvious where the shot went so you can see why you've missed it would feel less like a hit detection problem and more a lvl/weapon accuracy problem. This would also allow a better means for learning a rifle, such as bullet drop (although I don't think the game has bullet drop?) as well as shot speed so you can learn how much you need to lead a target.
Just MHO :) Cheers. |

Same here there is an issue at times with shots not hitting the target at all. On Aug 27th during the afternoon/evening aiming worked normally, by the night the same shots at the same ranges or closer no longer hit at all (zero damage from burst fire). One squad member started dead-firing and said it worked for him. Nothing solved the issue for me. Someone thought we may have been on an Asian server with the few players being placed in matches So naturally the lag ghost was being brought up. |

There is definitely something going on with the hit detection, I have times when I just kill everyone on sight and sometimes no matter how much I spray bullets on them they just won't die. Hit detection is most evident with sniper rifles and often with SMG's though with SMG it's sometimes hard tell if you're too far out of range or if it's the hit detection.
I spend my time between DT's watching DUST game play videos and one of them has a perfect example of hit detection where he snipes another sniper (crouching on a rock with his rifle) without any effect, before that he lucky shot who knows how many guys with his sniper rifle and ended up with 11/3 in the match.
those videos are good for catching different game play issues such as the one that I realised that I have no *thumb* *thumb* sound at all when I die in dust and that graphics can look damn good or damn appalling depending on your TV settings. |

I have to agree. I use a sniper rifle quite a bit, and sometimes when I shoot another player it just appears as a bluish square on the player's avatar and no damage was done. I know for a fact I hit them, and sometimes I'll take 5 shots and every one hits but no damage.
Am I missing something that is a mechanic? Some special shielding? Otherwise, I do believe there is a hit detection issue. I've missed out on many, many kills due to the hit striking but no damage taken. If it is something I'm doing wrong though, I'd love to know so I can fix my play style! Please don't say I'm actually missing though because I know that I am not, I've seen this 5 dozen times now and I know my hits are landing on the model, but no damage is being applied. |

Can it be that modules recover his shield faster than you puncture it?

Absolutely not because the shields don't recharge that fast. The flash occurs the instant the hit strikes and there is no reaction to the status bar. When I say I hit them 3, 4 and 5 times I mean it's back to back bullets. There is no way they can take that many hits from a charge sniper rifle back to back. |

Shotties have a bad spread dude. You need to upgrade the skill or you headshot the dudes. I run with a shottie myself. And unless you have your shotgun skills upgraded its gonna do you no good against a scout or someone who has his vigor and endurance upgraded.

Was behind some one last night spitting distance to be exact emptied six shots from my shot gun into him got the shield flash thingy but no damage he turned round and killed me in about 3 seconds he was assault.
So I swap to AR and all I got was either no damage at all off most players I shot or just the shield damage indicartor but not doing any damage, day before I was on a rampage so yes something isn't working correct |

I know exactly what you mean. I've been in nigh point blank distance behind another sniper. I snuck up behind him, tried to land one right in his skull, blue shield thing. 2nd bullet, blue shield. 3rd bullet blue shield. So, I scooted a couple steps to the right, took another shot, blam dead. Weird.
I'm still getting plenty of kills, don't get me wrong, and I love the game but something is definitely wrong with the hit detection on about 15% of my shots. |

I'll just add that the blue shield thingy comes up quite often when I miss my targets avatar by a small amount. Like I hit the shield but not the target so get shield effect. So The shield detection graphics code is off. I know I missed because it happens a lot when I'm leading a target. My cross hair doesn't go red but the blue shield appears.
Just putting it out their so people don't confuse blue shield with a hit. |

Yea but at nearly point blank range with a rifle pointed squarely at the back and the blue shield comes up... something is wrong with that. It shouldn't deflect at that range pointed at such a broad target. We're talking less than 30 meters, probably less than 20 meters. |

Ye i'm aware of that but six shots from a shot gun a very close range on a still targets back just shows some thing is not right, if he was moving i may slightly get it but even that would make you think. |

Most of my hit detection problems are related to the fact that the game throws me in to American or Asian servers where my ping is DOUBLE the amount of what it's on European servers making more than half of my shots miss.
Found a pretty good fix for those ****** games where hit detection doesn't work at all tough. I'll just pop in to my low cost fit with scout drop-suit shotgun and SMG as the ****** hit detection seems to work both ways. SMG and shotgun seem pretty good even with poor hit detection. |

There is no skill that reduces your hit detection size. Dropsuit command simply reduces your signature radius which makes it harder for you to be detected on radar (aka the minimap).
However, hit detection is definitely an issue. When I am sniping I have watched my round hit the target to no effect. Basically, you will see the shield flash from the impact but no damage will be applied. Also, when you are crouching and your target is crouching with part of his body concealed by terrain you often get the red dot saying you are targetting him but then your shot fails while they are then able to shoot you. It's happened enough I know it's not me being a shoddy shot. |
