as the subject says. Apparently, there is no hidden mic in controllers.
And I can't imagine playing Dust without comms (we shall have to have separate PC running TS3 on a side?)
so, can I get some advice - what do I have to buy, where, where to stick it in etc? (Im trying to use mouse keyboard combo because there is no chnce in hell that I can AIM correctly with joystick...) |

Uh-huh.. I'm going to attempt to try and help you. How your micrpohone connects and interacts with your PlayStation3 console depends on whether or not it is corded, or bluetooth. If it is bluetooth you'll have to syncronize it with your console. Usually the bluetooth code is -- "0000" -- and nothing else. Simple as that. Corded is simple. You connect the USB, and switch to the headset it recognizes. In-game on Dust514 you'll have to manually turn [On] your micrphone in your options, and if you want PtT (Push to Talk) as is in the [On] position you'll need to use [Left] on your d-pad (Directional Pad) to use your mic. Otherwise with PtT [Off] it will be open mic.
If you have a USB corded mic you are already set. Otherwise you'll have to rummage for some bluetooth headset. They range in prices, from cheap to expensive. Or you could afford for a bigger and nicer headset. Tritton as an example. Keyboard and mouse hook up easyily too. All you have to do is tweek the console settings to your liking, and in-game options to your liking as well.
Hope this helps.
Edit:
I just wanted to point out I have no information on where the PtT (Push to Talk) would be on the keyboard. I apologise for that lack of information though. I do believe however it should show you in-game, and if not there should be a manual around here somewhere among the stickies. |

just to follow up,
the ps3 uses USB mic, Bluetooth or a usb wireless receivered one. the only sounds that come out of these headsets is voice. there are certain ways to get all sounds out of the headset. (sony has an official stereo headset with virtual 7.1) nice headset but i have issues with it with Dust, others apparently do not.
you can also use wired but thats a trick to get all sound out of (only voice will be heard through wired headsets), if you really wanna know just ask.
the bluetooths have their own ways to pairing but if you can pair a bluetooth to your phone you can pair it to your ps3! (and pairing instructions come with the purchase of a mic) |

The PTT on the keyboard SHOULD be Z but it doesn't work, don't know why but just saying. (Right analog stick also doesn't seem to work while in battle for weapon switching, means I basically need my controller on my desk to activate tank modules)
As for getting voice, there is a built in squad chat, and somehow team chat works or something I dunno. But yeah just leave it on open mic if you have a kbm for now. As for external voice chat those can be set up all you want, but the universal voice translators are actually designed as built in VOIP clients I don't know how they work but basically CCP is charging same price for the UVL as they think a VOIP server would cost, |

Quick note on bluetooth; try to look for a version 2.0 or 2.1.I do not know about the newer model of PS3, but the older models only work with the 1.0, 2.0, and 2.1 headsets. You can look on http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bluetooth_headsets_compatible_with_PlayStation_3 A lot of these are on amazon for less than 30,000n+ª so about 27 or less USD. |

What's this about? I use a wired one and I get two separate channels through, one for game sound and one for chat. |
