Voice communications at the moment are bugged as we all know, often players have cross communication with the opposing team.
That aside, I often hear people that have 'hot' microphones that continually broadcast noise from that individual players local environment (I have been an unintentional offender). Things like screaming kids, family members waffling on about their day, slightly delayed gameplay noises echoing back. This is normally from players forgetting that a mic was left on and other times it is intentionally used to grief. It is highly frustrating not being able to communicate with your own team, as one anti-social individual can cripple the co-ordination of more than a dozen team mates.
An individual mute option would be of great benefit please CCP. Combine that with somehow mapping a push-to-talk option, if not for controller users - then as an added benefit to Keyboard and mouse users.
Coming from EVE on PC and using quality voice comms solutions like Ventrilo, Teamspeak and other similar solutions. As it stands now, we are having to listen to someone chewing their dinner and heavy breathing into a mic on the PS3. I have left matches due to a poor experience with voice comms being abused.
How has everyone elses experiences been with voice comms in Dust 514 so far?

Good points Mobius, I was going to suggest the cascading voice comms idea myself, but I thought about it and changed my view point on the subject - mainly because I do like the fact that as a squad member in squad A, I can hear Sqaudmember in Sqaud B warning about an incoming tank on Objective C.
Hearing the full range of intel without it needing to be double handled by squad leaders and the commander is more efficient. Unfortunately it relies on people not abusing the team-wide voice comms.

Talneck Balder wrote:Nice to know voice is being looked at , had to take my headset of a few times due to antisocial users . Though one thing i would like to see someplace is some sort of guide / review to mikes , first time i have needed to use one realy and the one i have works but the mike is very faint so i dont tend to get involved in much chat at this time.
I am happy with my TurtleBeach PX11, my cheap logitech USB headset i use on my PC was not PS3 compatible.

I really like the seperated volume for In-game sounds, and voice comms. If someone is abusing comms you can turn voice comms right off. Also has a mic mute switch. Microphone quality is excellent, but will pick up background noise fairly easily.
Once CCP Frame (and team) pwns that PTT feature though, mic over-sensitivity will be a thing of the past \o/ |

KAGEHOSHI Horned Wolf wrote:A mute option is a must. There needs to be icons over the heads of whoever is talking, and indicators with names in the side of the HUD to show who is talking. There should be more chat options, like a squad only option which would be default in 48+ player games where there could be like 23 other people talking at once, and a leaders only voice chat option for discussing strategy with the commander and other squad leaders.
Hmmm perhaps channels are the way to go after all. Lets look forward to CCPs tailored solution. |
