Wow, I'm just getting destroyed every single game. I consider myself a really good fps player but I struggle to even get a 1 kdr. Any advice? Also, can someone tell me why skill books are so damn expensive? I'll finally grind up the necessary xp to get a skill and then the game is just like nope! you can't get that. |

Hang in there is the best advice I can give. There is an excellent new player guide that is permanently linked at the top of these topics. Your kdr is suffering primarily because players with significantly more skill points than yourself are using vastly superior gear with inherent bonuses as well. Keep learning the maps and try to find a corp that is willing to offer good advice and coaching. |

Also remember that the amount of experience you again has very little to do with personal personal performance in-battle, so even if you're getting stomped, you're still getting about the same amount of SP that you would if you kicked ass.

In this game, there are several factors in play that makes killing an ADV/PRO suit near impossible for new players, as they lack the core skills to compete. Lucky for you however, CCP is developing a new matchmaking system, which should make your experience as a new player easier.
Send me some mail in-game, and I'll send you some ISK to pay for the starting skillbooks. Though I'd hold off on investing into any of them until you understand what role you wish to become, as well as what each skillbook is used for. Also, don't invest Dropsuit Command anywhere past Level 3.
As for your last part, you've most likely noticed that each death costs you a certain amount of ISK, unless you're using BPOs (Blueprint Only), which are infinite. Though if you wouldn't mind starting over (again), contact me, and I can get you:
- A Blueprint Assault Rifle
- A Blueprint Sub-Machine Gun
- A Blueprint Dropsuit
Through the recruiter program, which gives new players rewards for each milestone (AR at the start, SMG at 25,000WP, and a Dropsuit at 100k WP).
On another note, I'd suggest joining the Chat Channel called "Learning Coalition" (without the quotes). In that channel, you'll find experienced players who frequently squad up with new players and teach them the ins and outs of DUST.
Also, I'd suggest giving Immortal Guides a look. (No I'm not affiliated with them).

Join a squad and a corp. Skill books are kinda expensive for newberries(highest cost for one is I think 1 mil?) If you want to make money, do ambush in a no cost suit(Starter). You could make about 1-2 mill per hour doing that. If you want to get better, try strategizing, don't take on guys at certain ranges, don't go for the heavies(unless you really want to). Stick near your main force, but not too close in case an orbital falls on top of everyone.
Check the Map. Listen to the game(Sometimes you can hear footsteps and gunfire). But the best advice I can give is to join a player run corp(Haven't been paying attention to the corps and I forget most of the new player friendly corps) and join a squad (It makes you much more organized, an average squad can dominate a battlefield of randoms) Never trust blue berries(teammates) to have your back. They are useless.
Learn the maps and the areas(good areas for you to provide covering fire and rack up a bunch of kills, open areas are susceptible to sniper fire, tight corners/spaces/hallways have heavy ass written all over it) Learn the range of weapons. Know who you are fighting(when getting into a fight press up on the d-pad look to see if on the enemy team has a bunch of people from the same corp. If they do, your team will be most likely destroyed) Keep moving(Moving targets are harder to hit than targets standing still) Turn off auto aim( I dislike it) know your role(can have multiple, all have benefits and non benefits, example don't be a scout and bust in a group of enemies without a plan/ escape route.)(I do that but you shouldn't) Know what you want to skill into(Make a plan, do you want to be an armor tanker(slow repair, more ehp) or a shield tanker(fast repair, lower ehp) ewar(scanner enemies, be a ninja, etc...) biotics(run faster for longer, punch harder)) weapons(Know how to deal with weapons, find a weak point in that weapon, find the strengths. Example- Hmg, good damage output, good rof, Slow turning speed)
Thats mostly everything I think. Can't stress enough about joining a Corp and squads. |
