Yes, it is. The same can be said about any FPS.
"Counter-Strike has all these clans. Some people don't have time for that kind of stuff. Is this a game for casual players?"
If you are a casual player and don't max out every week, it just means you can do less stuff than someone who caps out immediately, cycles omega boosters, and even gets over 100,000 extra SP a week from capping out and keep playing. Anyone can pick it up and play. The problem is for the first few weeks or months of play when you don't have all the things that go a long way to helping people. After about 6 million SP, people can pretty much max out a single role or at least get advanced and be more than capable of standing toe to toe.
Of course, as always, skill/tactics is generally better than raw SP.
Edit: There is a huge amount of depth and complexity that the casual player will never get into but that is the same for any MMO. If you are a casual League of Legends player, you will never get into the highest ranked leagues. If you just play WoW as a time killer, you will probably never be a great arena or raid participant. With DUST, if you just want to kill a few hours here and there, you will probably never see a real hardcore PC fight or be on the leader boards. But if you enjoy the game and don't want to be "teh sooper leetz doodz", it doesn't matter how casual you are.

I've always thought of Lobby FPSes as a casual experience. You get on play a few matches and get off. So if you think so then yes, then it will never not be a casual game.
The most OP weapon on the Dust Battle Field:
One good logi, one rep tool, and a heavy.

You will either serve your purpose as fodder for a while and move on to another game, or make a name for yourself and move up. I think yes? You download this game for the first time because it's free expecting a fun FPS. You get told to join a battle, so you do so and start with the academy. You're not used to the controls or even know what anything on the screen means, but you head to the objective anyways, slowly but surely by foot not knowing you could spawn in a car.
You call the objective or the enemy does and you hope to get it back, not knowing about CRUs so if you die, you have to walk all the way back. Depending on how you do, you may get stomped after 1 or two matches when you leave the academy.
You stop playing and may come bank after a couple of months to spend your SP and get stuff you don't even know how to use-...
You know what? Nevermind. It may not be for casuals. |

i am in a corp of 2 people.
i play solo 99% of the time when i can get on.
i am always near the top or at the top and its very rare for me not to make a proffit.
ok playing solo is not great for KDR whores but meh neither is a pure scout or pure logi.
tbh its all down to game style - mine suits solo play. |

it's why i occasionally fly/play in academy that and sometimes i talk to a new player. i'm a nerd and like a chance to tell someone about dust. but no the game is not for the casual player. either you like games this complex or you need to newtwork with vets. most people i know think dust isn't "fair" but they're kinda noobs who think the only good game is COD. if you have no networking skills and only play COD then yea dust is a turn off. COD is pandered and streamline to appeal to casuals. any game walmart endorses usually sux. then after you go to Mcdonalds to get a super large drink with a COD add on it during times of new release, they have to go that far out of there way to push a crappy game down everyones casual throat .

I came from BF3, so I was used to the long walks/long drives and the DUST experience in general. You get alot of that from Conquest.
Tanks in BF3 and Tanks in DUST share very similar principles, except BF3 tanks were easier to kill. And rocket launchers were easier to use...

This is a social game (hence the statement of an FPSMMO even if its not quite there yet). Not a solo casual game platform. It makes sense why not all but a lot of us start to really excel when placed in corps and squads of people we jive well with.

oh man i love BF. i came from BF3 also in 2012. actually bad company 2 was my favorite. i jump on BF4 now and then for some hardcore rush. i would take a BF player any day over a COD they're already used to and understand vehciles, not like a CODtard who goes emptying clip after MLT AR clip into a tank screaming "WTF! WTF!!" the entire time.. the casuals also will not work with vehicles. they want to run from point to point while crying about cloakers. if they would have boarded the dropship i landed right in front of them they would have had a safe ride especially now they nerfed the rails. so many things people cry about can be nullified by transport. i finally found a corp that doesn't frown on pilots and is willing to let me transport/extract them. usually i ask someone new what game their from when they say COD i dont really waste time teaching them because they have very low attention span, and after you spend an hour on them they say- "I'm going to play COD now"

I'm sure i'm not the only who gets over 500k in pub matches sometimes (Atleast once day by smacking the so called honorable MLT l33ts) on average 260-340k per battle.... Not that hard to do, just kill everything that you see, specially the So called MLT L33t (Who are usually using some not so MLT gear) You just need to go 30-2 to make money using PROTO gear....
Btw, how would you HACK Dust 514 to make more ISK in pub matches. Please do entertain us, i'm sure it would solve the current ISK problems.... |
