If you would like to share your knowledge of the game with new players, to ease their learning curve, and help them find their footing so that they learn to enjoy what DUST 514 has to offer, then the
Learning Coalition is the place for you! Come help us improve new player retention.
The Learning Coalition does not require you to leave your Corp or make a contractual commitment. Our activities are centred around the chat channel: GÇ£Learning CoalitionGÇ¥. To join the ranks of our volunteer instructors simply join the channel. At a minimum we would ask that you try to answer questions or requests for advice posted in the channel. If you are more motivated it would be really appreciate if you could squad up with the newer players in the channel. Many of the new players will not have mics yet, but it is very helpful for them to be able to hear how an experienced squad communicates. (You may have to walk them though activating Voice in the Operations menu.) Hearing a good squad communicating effectively will often convince a new player to purchase a mic, which will in turn greatly improve their DUST experience. The ones that do have mics can learn a lot from you in the course of a match.
Yes we do have New players! I am constantly recruiting new players for my basic training Corp, many of them only days or even hours old when they join. All my Corp members receive invites to join the Learning Coalition channel. We average 8 to 10 new players a week that way. Most of our instructors direct new players that they meet to join Learning Coalition chat as well.
Learning Coalition is not a one Corp operation.
Corporate members include:
Immortal Guides, Learning Coalition College,
R 0 N 1 N, and
Terrestrial Suppression Force.
Training Group members include: The Mango Training Group, and
BojoGÇÖs School of the Trades. We also have volunteer Instructors from many other Corporations, including several of the top PC Corps.
The Learning Coalition is active in all time zones, although it is more active in at some times than others. If it is not active enough in your time zone, then you have the power to change that. We have been averaging between 25 to 35 members on throughout the day.
The purpose of the channel is for questions to be asked and answered, and to help new players find squads to mentor them. We want to build a sense of community so there also tends to be a lot of friendly conversation and banter. We do ask though that you do not monopolize the channel too much. If you and a friend have completely filled the channel with your conversation, you might want to ask if anyone else in channel wanted to ask a question or has something to say. You may find that they have been holding back not wanting to interrupt.
Please do not post recruitment ads in Learning Coalition chat. You may talk about your Corp all you want once you get someone in your squad, but the chat channel is not for recruitment.
The channel is lightly moderated. We let a lot of things go, but blatantly racist, sexist, and homophobic remarks can get you banned from the channel for a duration proportional to the infraction. Excessive spamming, or derailing the conversation through trolling, can get you muted for a duration proportional to the infraction. If you wish to lodge a complaint about someoneGÇÖs behaviour in the channel, mail your complaint to Renier Gaden and explain in detail what happened.
