Firstly I still want to congratulate CCP on weathering the storm thru all the trolling, the bitching, the insults and the justified anger that has been directed their way. It can't be an easy job copping that much hate and still attempting to create a solid balanced game for their community.
In saying that: this is not a solid and balanced game. 1 year and 6 months of playing this game has not brought me the rewards I have hoped for all this time. Dust 514 is nothing short of a wasted potential. I think back to the days in my first Corporation where we would spend hours in PSN chat not only discussing the incredible possibilities of the future of Dust, but also what directions our Corporation would take as much as what directions we would take as soldiers and where to focus our specialties to prepare for future updates.
I then think about the COUNTLESS hours spent in meetings with my current Corp, TSOLE, discussing battle tactics, diplomatic relationships, specializing, future updates, Corp policy and inter-Corp disputes. Sometimes just shooting the breeze to recharge ourselves from a full night of discussion.
But all our efforts, resources, hopes and attempts at management have not brought a game where the New Eden Universe is impacted by the very actions of a single Merc. Not even the greatest shifts in ownership within Planetary Conquest makes an even slight ripple in Eve. What's more, the very pinnacle of competitive arenas in Dust; the Tournaments put on by CCP and the likes of ESL, etc; are affected by the broken coding and constant glitches and bugs we face within PC and pub matches alike. The game's comms system is a mess of disappearing speech bubbles, mic bugs and hopeless chat channels that cannot provide a good way for players to come together. The mechanics, while definitely coming close to balancing the damage potential of weapons, equipment, etc, does not excuse the fact that they are SUB-PAR mechanics in a truly visually ugly game.
The glitches are too many to list, and the portion that have been around for longer than the many updates we have had since 1.0 is shamefully a large portion. The promises of an ever expanding and developing game have been unfounded.
For many, the hope that this game will break new boundaries has thus far been nothing but a pipe dream. We don't have any prospect of this game making it's way into next-gen, and Sony's support is only guaranteed until 2015 (the life expectancy of the PS3). Yet we are told there are no current plans to move the game to PS4. And if there was some grand plan to port the same game onto the PS4, I for one could not keep the patience going on some of the ugliest graphics I've seen in a so-called "AAA" shooter.
If I have something positive to say about the game, it'll amount to two things. First and foremost is the community it has built. I have made some incredible and life-long friends here in Dust, and how that was possible was on the empty promise of a game that will become larger than any console game to date. But I am forever grateful for meeting these awesome players and hope to join them in another title. The second is the skill system. That was a work of art, and to this day should be the benchmark for any skill-tree shooter that plans to be in existence longer than two years.
But these two positives, while a major factor, do not redeem the horrible and frustrating experiences I've had within this game. And frankly I can't continue losing my patience with a game I no longer have any faith in. Many significant changes and additions should have come along in the past year and a half, but nothing so far has come even close to some of the potential this title has/had.
I wish CCP well in the further development of Dust, but until I hear of ANY news that this game ended up becoming the mind-blowing experience we were promised, I have no intention of spending anymore time playing this game. My hat's go off to those who still have the faith in the future of Dust, or those who can still bear to fight thru the horrendous mechanics, bugs and visuals of this game. All the best.
A quick shout out to the best bunch of blokes and gals a Corpy can game with: The Southern Legionnaires! You guys have been a phenomenal inspiration to me and have been the best representation of Australia and New Zealand this game could ever hope for! But that's not to say our members from the Asia, EU and NA regions are any less of a sterling example of what a TRUE Corporation can be! You guys rock and I hope to game with you all in another title that lives up to the expectations we put on it.
All the best to the rest of the Dust Community, allies or not. While it's not been a great shooter experience, it's certainly been a helluva ride facing you all in pubs, FW and PC!
This is The Loathing signing off.
TL;DR: So long suckas!
