After playing BF4 beta, it became clear to me how bad getting stuffed behind the redline is while playing dust. There is a far less chance of breaking out of it and maintaining a realistic comeback. The objectives take much longer to convert to the your side and you can't defend yourself while hacking the objective. And since personal loss is such a big part of the dust economy, players are less likely to traverse the map for little reward, since most of your teammates won't risk spawning there in the few seconds of the captured objective. In BF4, a player can still create some breathing space, especially since vehicles are frequently available to all. Some matches in dust involve an immediate redline and the player must confront the idea of 15 minutes of hiding on the border of anything playable. I love the Dust concept, but BF4 might win more of my playing time, due to that frustration, which happens too often. In all the shooters I've ever played, I never seen more redlining than in Dust. And I've never seen more one sided matches. For a fun game, this can be more soul crushing than a competitive challenge.
But my real problem lately has been corp squads in matches that have been set aside for lone mercenaries. Some people don't want to join corps, as strange as that might sound to social gamers. And to see a gang of you using your advantage against those who operate alone/with randoms defeats the purpose of what has been set aside for single players and mixed squads. A lone merc shouldn't see the opposition in the war barge lineup and know they will lose and lose badly before the match even starts. Because the community is small, predicting these losses is pretty easy. I suppose you corp guys don't care, but I can tell you now that you ruin the chance for this game to grow among new players and players who won't play with the long standing elite. Corp Ceo dudes, please pass the word to your members if you think this is respectable in your opinion.
Thanks for letting me vent a little. |

Public matches will be the only way to earn ISK outside PC.
So corp squads are meant to deploy in public matches.
In the description of the game mode, it says, for "lone mercernaries"
Why don't corp squads play Faction Warfare instead? |

I didn't realize that asking for a reasonable fair fight was asking for too much. Oh yeah, the kick you when your down generation, I forgot.
Truth is, there are some corp dudes out there that can dominate alone without corps, and other corp dudes that hide behind their numbers. You might win the match, but don't respect your poor gamesmanship. |

Don't listen to guys like this - I exclusively play solo because I hate listening to people with social disorders scream at me. It takes a change of mindset in order to enjoy the game like this. I try not to think of Dust as a game of directly winning and losing, but a game of how much ISK I can cost the other team. Play low cost dropsuits and take solace when you kill some guy in a prototype suit, or blow up his vehicle. Because the amount of ISK gained in a public match is relatively small, if you've done more damage to the enemy team than they got from it either singularly or collectively, and you had fun while doing it, you should count that as a win in your book. If you're stuck behind the redline and there's hope of coming back in the game, bust out a sniper rifle or forge gun and see who or what you can pick off. ISK efficiency is king in my book, not wins/losses. I'm interested to find out what FW will be like with friendly fire turned on. I suspect tryhards will kill solo players because they aren't in a squad. That will probably push me public contracts exclusively. Not to toot my own horn, but if I can have pretty successful matches despite popular opinion about solo players being overly negative, so can you. Proof!TL;DR, enjoy being a blueberry! Change conditions of victory in your mind, and you'll have fun and maybe even do pretty well sometimes!
I was tempted to respond to him, explain that it's not unsual for a anti social person to gravitate towards a game where things get blown up. But I suppose he believes his online friends are real friends. |

What's funny about being a lone wolf gamer is that social gamers rudely attack you for it, which justifies my anti social reaction towards them.
The game mode states for lone mercenaries, so either you can't read or you don't care. If you don't care, that says a lot about the dust community. |

I'm not blaming anyone for wanting to team up or use teamwork, but that's what factional warfare is for. The description of the public contracts says it's for lone mercenaries and people are making excuses for ignoring it, by saying teamwork this and that. It still doesn't change the fact that corps are not respecting the game mode. If CCP wants to change the description fine, unitl then I'm guessing corps aren't even reading it.

It amazes me the amount of misconceptions some gamers have about all lone wolves being the same, how they somehow want to win less than those attached the squad hips. Lone wolves aren't always alone, they just might not know who the random is next to them. I run solo, but my target is always the objective. |

Using teamwork with corp mates / friends is now frowned upon. Congrats, I have now seen and heard it all in DUST.
this proves to me you maybe only skimmed the description of what is to be expected in a public contract. The fact that three people liked your post means they didn't read it either.
you are in a recognizable corp, and yet it seems like you don't care about the longevity of the game or attracting new players. |

Idye Lotz wrote:Factional warfare is skirmish only. Not everyone wants to play one mode over and over and over again. You want to play solo, play solo. I honestly can't blame you considering some of the babies I hear crying (usually grown men) on team chat, but that is what the mute function is for. However not everyone in Dust is like that, maybe join some random corp squads and turn your comms on. It they don't fit move onto another squad, until you find one that suits your preference. It would be better than trying to keep squads out of pub matches.
You make a good point about skirmish only for FW. |

Michael Arck wrote:LOL! Is the OP serious? Son, you weren't built to fight the wars in New Eden, it seems. If I want to go lone wolf, I know of the odds and I face them. As much as I might get pissed at a blueberry for failing to understand tactical teamwork, I still come back for more.
Second, this isn't BF4. You can play those ******* infused FPS games if you want but you cannot change Dust into BF4.
Dust is bound in the understanding that you think before you react. You're just a twitch gamer. Learn how to your use your mind instead of the BF4 style which includes: running, switch weapons, ADS, fire, jump, run, go to prone, stand, run, ADS, fire, die, spawn, run, prone, ADS, fire. Yea, you can have that mind numbing FPS title. While its fun, BF4 and COD does NOT compare to Dust 514...not by a long shot. And I like that.
Finally a mature FPS title for the PS3 console.
I agree that dust makes us become a different type of shooter, but I don't think being less aggressive to avoid personal inventory loss is really using your mind. You are taking less risks for less reward and some would find that less fun than BF4.
This idea that the lone wolf doesn't take actions to help the team is wrong. I could say teamwork is nothing more than staying nearby a teammate and outnumbering the enemy. There are not many tactics other than flanking, which almost all gamers are aware of. Unless you've had military experience, what does the average gamer know about tactical warfare other than to gain the high ground? |
