1. Hip firing for almost all weapons would be drastically improved (Mostly in Assault Rifles and SMG's) 2.your peripheral vision in the game would be improved. 3.you would feel that the maps make your game experience feel ''boxed in'' 4.your K/D ratio will go down as a result of hip firing and strafing limitations 5. and finally COD and battlefield 3 veterans will stop playing dust for the lack of nimbleness and agility. ( I know because i played shooters with that type of view, feel free to add to my list.) its better to see through the eyes of the merc instead of the point of view their floating nametag has. |

Perspective doesn't directly affect the pace of gameplay. Traditional arena FPS games like Quake and Unreal could be called slow-paced in a sense because of the long times to kill on other players. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is similarly fast-paced but with long TTK because player health is higher in comparison to weapon damage.
The early Rainbow Six games had fast TTK, but were very slow-paced tactical games, partly because of how quickly players died, and they were played in first person. The pacing is a lot like The Last of Us, although that game's TTK is slightly longer with most weapons.
Try playing Transformers: War for Cybertron or Fall of Cybertron - they're fast-paced TPS games with a heavy focus on fast movement as well as short TTK much like what you see in most current-gen FPS games.
A game like The Last of Us being comparatively slower-paced doesn't prove that a third person perspective slows down gameplay, and certainly doesn't prove that first-person shooters are all fast-paced.
If the game goes third-person, the big change will be getting used to shoulder-swapping and corner peeking, and learning to expect it from other players. That particularly obnoxious tactic is probably a key reason why CCP chose not to make DUST third person. It's not necessarily cheap, but for the kind of approach DUST has taken in every other area, it would be. |
