I'm wondering which is a better sidearm for a pure assault, the SMG or the Flaylock. I've been running the SMG, mainly cause I haven't had to skill into it to use it. I like being able to switch from my AR to the SMG to finish people off, instead of trying to reload my AR. My problems arise in CQC, when I got enemies 2-0 meters from me strafing and jumping around. I know I probably shouldn't be letting people get that close to me with the loadout i'm carrying, but it happens. Is the Flaylock worth it? I know it's powerful as all hell when it's heavily speced, but I would be using it more as a stopgap measure as opposed to my main weapon. Is a handful of upgrades to the Flaylock worth pursuing to use it as a true sidearm, or should I steer clear of it unless i'm gonna really invest in it? |

Flaylocks got a pretty big nerf in 1.3, to the point where I don't see many people using them now. The lower level ones aren't great unless you can either land the shot directly or right at their feet, since the blast radius is small. Higher tier are better.
I find that a well placed cooked grenade, or even a Remote Explosive if I can lure them into it, can do a Flaylock's job at close range. The flaylock is fast and still strong, but you'd have to be Advanced or Proto to really have any use for it. |

I run an AR / SMG combo, and have had pretty good success with it. Ive learnt that to be decently accurate with the SMG though, you need to use the scope on it, otherwise you will just spray rounds everywhere. Spending some SP in on the SMG does pay off. |

I'm not necessarily looking for kills, more for something to create space in CQC. It's a lot harder to do that when i'm the one running lol. If it would get someone to take a few steps back, I think i'd check it out. But if it needs to be heavily speced before it even starts worrying people, i'll pass. |

I still think the flaylock is great, when used as a sidearm. If CQC is a problem for you I'll definitely try it out. Just be sure to use it when the enemy has 0 shields because the thing isn't very effective against them. Try the ADV version btw the STD ones suck.

flux nades are always a good idea. se standard flaylocks and get good with them they will improv your ai, then specc into the skill that increases the blast radius on the flaylocks they are still great, why you hit people or they bunny hop just aim where thay are going to land you can kill them with locks. if they have no shields its better to lead with the locks then go AR to finish |

here is a tip. make some militia fits and put standard flaylocks on them, with flux nades and a milita AR. when you get good with the standard flaylocks, move to ADV, you will notice that you will never miss. practice with std = ADV and proto you are god |

The flaylock is a noob tube. The SMG is plenty powerful if you skill into it fully. Proto SMG eats people alive. |

Flux grenade for shields then carry two SMG and switch instead of reload. Make the second SMG a breach.
You can even do this effectively with a scout/light suit if you jump around in circles in between firing instead of relying on armor/shields to protect you.
It's FUN! |
