For an empire that focuses mainly on drone tech in eve the apparent lack of reliance on it in DUST is slightly disturbing. Therefore I propose that a new slot gets put into the game, the drone slot. The drone slot can be covered by two different types of drones. Drone set one is a triage drone. A small cluster of small drones hovers near the player once released by him/her. Now they follow this person giving triage like a nanohive. They spread to nearby teammates when they go within a 4m range. After being on for a set time (lets say 40 seconds) they return to the player to recharge for a while (30secs) They class up seperately to the other type of drone however, the combat drone. The combat drone is a whole different kettle of fish, it fires with the power of a breach smg at the rate of an AR (burst or breach style maybe) It sticks near the player again but only fires on lit targets at set ranges. This means that should an enemy lose its light they'll be safe. It won't be pinpoint accurate like turrets but you see where i'm going. This also gives scanners a use and a defence should they be gallente.
To destroy the drones there are two things that can be done. For the triage drones a flux will quickly disable the whole group, they will no longer recharge an can only be resupllied nanohive style. For the combat drone it will be completely different. It will be a bigger drone for one and it will be solo. It can be destroyed by normal things and have reduced health. Combat drones can be customised more but i'd love to hear thoughts on this |

Why not just make them equipment?
And I don't like the idea of personal drones, honestly. My vision for drones is that they would be a type of officer strike (like the precision strike). Drones would be called from ships in orbit to sentry a designated area. They'd look and act like the PvE drones we've seen and would dispell after a set time. |

I wouldn't say go equipment because then logi's could become drone gods with unparalleled power as they could have 4 guns by themselves, too OP |

I'd say a drone beacon that calls down a modifiable drone (anti-tank, infantry, high fire rate low damage, low fire rate high damage etc.. could be in Equipment slot and last 60 seconds and another 3o seconds for every training in its unlocking skill bank. also of course proficiency and ammo (life time) and available weoponry would come afterward? |

I like the idea that Gallente get them but Caldari don't. Mainly because right now armor tanking sucks. They should make a drone slot. And can only hold 1 combat drone, and 5 triage drones. So with Gallente, they could hold 2 combat or 10 triage, or 1 combat and 5 triage?
The combat drones would only fire if you're let's say within 4m or so and have a low rate of fire. Their shield and armor could be 130-180.
For triage drones, they could rep at armor at 1 or 2 per sec (per drone). And just like being a squad leader you can pull up a radial and send them to rep others. And their shield and armor could be 80-100.
But since they are only drones, flux grenades would destroy them or could disable them for sometime. 10 triage seems like a lot, but since they're weak and repair at only 1 or 2 per second that seems resonable. Just kinda pulling this out of my ass though lol. |

I think the idea is intresting and worth a try, the drones that intrest me the most though are the triage drones, combat drones seem like they might start being to cheap and I can hear the cries of the light suit going OP unfair, it gives them advanced warning, it killed me, etc etc.
A drone type that I think would be the most useful are scout drones, just drones sent out to go check things out about you, maybe even distract an enemy or mess with the enemy's radar by say making it appear their is two extras of you on the mini map if their scanners are not good enough, obviously these scouts would have very low hp and their would be simple counter measures against them such as having a good scanner or radar or other team mates nearby. (probably just one extra on the mini map to be fair)
Drones though, I believe could be a very fun racial ability, to be put into the equipment slot if a drone slot is not created. However, if Gallente gets drones other races should get a varient of what they are best at also put into Dust. |

Ok seeing as a few people like this idea i'm going to put a bit more effort into how I think drones could work in different ways with a bit more fine detail. I will not agree with drones becoming equiptment for one simple situation. "Oh hello mr. gallente logi." "Hi red dot here's 4 combat drones and a mass driver to the face"
Method A Drones become the passive player surrounding hubs i described earlier but will repeat here for clarity's sake. Drone set one is a triage drone. A small cluster of small drones hovers near the player once released by him/her. Now they follow this person giving triage like a nanohive. They spread to nearby teammates in need of ammo or a factor more important, armor, when they go within a 4m range. After being on for a set time (lets say 40 seconds) they return to the player to recharge for a while (30secs). They go out in packs of 6. Each one has 4 ammo clusters and a continuous 5ehp/s charge rate. The combat drone is a whole different kettle of fish, firstly it is a single, bigger drone that fires with the power of a breach smg at the rate of an AR (burst or breach style maybe) It sticks near the player again but only fires on lit targets at set ranges, by lit targets i mean red dots marked by scanners or ones caught in gun sights of a teammate. This means that should an enemy lose its light they'll be safe from drones. It won't be pinpoint accurate like turrets but you see where i'm going. This also gives scanners a use and a defence should they be gallente. Finally the scout drone (a recognised idea from you guys.) It has no offensive capabilities at all but has a 10m scanning radius that paints enemies for 10s. It works a little differently orbiting the player from a distance or being placed in one specific location. To destroy the drones there are two things that can be done. For the triage drones a flux will quickly disable the whole group, they will no longer recharge and can only be resupllied nanohive style. They are small and fast but have lower eph (around 80 each) For the combat drone It can be destroyed in the same ways but has a higer eph (around 150-180). The scout drone can also be destroyed these ways but is far smaller, faster and has only 50eph.
The skills related drones in ways A and B are: gallente assault suit bonus +3% damage increase to combat drone per level gallente logi suit bonus +1 to nanohive cluster and 1eph/s repair to triage drones per level gallente scout suit bonus +5% to scan ranger to scout drones per level combat drone handling unlocks standard at lvl1 adv. at lvl3 and proto at lvl5 triage drone handling unlocks standard at lvl1 adv. at lvl3 and proto at lvl5 scout drone handling unlocks standard at lvl1 adv. at lvl3 and proto at lvl5 all other normal skills for weapons (proficiency, ammo, remove reload) too lazy to write them all Method B Drones become one shot light weapons with full racial variants, except for caldari of course, with all types being more effective in gallente hands. They become active drones with specific ranges from the player, also giving rise to a new installation and equiptment. They are built with each race in mind. Gallente own the close combat drones fitted with shotgun tech to be a manouverable powerhouse (100eph militia shotgun power). The amarr have the tanky small mini-gun drone which is super slow, quite big but very intimidating (150eph) The minimatar have knife drones. Quick drones with nova knife like attachments compensated for their low 30 eph. Drones take a whole 32 clusters to recharge. Method C Drone become vehicles, gallente build only as they are the only ones who really use them. They come in all three forms again. Triage, Combat and Scout. Triage gets 200eph, a built in armor repper and a sexy banana color Combat gets 300eph and small turret slot to be controlled by the player Scout gets 100eph, a higher speed and an active scanner.
The gallente pilot suit then gets a bonus selectly for drones, +5% eph to drone when piloted by suit or something along those lines.
The skills related drones in ways A and B are: gallente assault suit bonus +3% damage increase to combat drone per level gallente logi suit bonus +1 to nanohive cluster and 1eph/s repair to triage drones per level gallente scout suit bonus +5% to scan ranger to scout drones per level combat drone handling unlocks standard at lvl1 adv. at lvl3 and proto at lvl5 triage drone handling unlocks standard at lvl1 adv. at lvl3 and proto at lvl5 scout drone handling unlocks standard at lvl1 adv. at lvl3 and proto at lvl5
Personally I hate B but I thought i'd do it for the variety. Please give feedback on what you like best and if you think some ideas should be in the other methods |

Players should get one drone and use it should be placed in it's own fitting section (like vehicles and suites). When fitting your drone you have the different races frames just like suites. Its slots would consist of; Deployment, Function, and a single mod slot that can hold high and lows. The Function slot can be used to fit a weapon OR equipment. This allows you to choose if you want your drone to be aggressive or it can utilize nano hives, a rep, or even uplinks. Possible weapons and equipment will be determained by your personal skill tree and the frame of the drone (heavy set drones can use modified HMGs but can't use SMGs, or rail guns) The Deployment slot is how you want the drone to behave. There are only two options; Sentry and infantry. The sentry has a larger scan range but will remain at it's deployed location while the infantry will have less range and fallow the player. The mod slot can be used to equip a single mod of your choosing, be it high or low. The drone's ability to equip items will be a direct reflection of your own abilities (If you can't equip a proto sniper then the drone can't either) Keep in mind that the weapons used by the drones are always toned down (reduced damage, fire rate, and for swarms they would also fire fewer missiles) If you die then the drone dies. CPU/PG is outrageously low.
Possible fits: [Medium frame] Sniper rifle, light damage, and set it to "Sentry". Place facing an objective and move on. [Heavy frame] Swarm, Range amp, and set to "Sentry". AV defense. [Light frame] Uplink, CPU extend, and set to "infantry". Won't attack but the player is now a MCRU.
This was just what came to me while reading this post so and didn't really think it completely through but w/e.

`Sigh. Just another fun game of DUST . I was thinking of this but then realised how unfair it would be as players wouldn't engage each other just send drones all over the place, DRONE 514. A drone with a sniper is unfair considering how accurate rail turrets are and how small a target they'd be themselves. Unmanned AV would also be father unfair to tanks and dropships |
