Starting this thread about an idea I just had since my oldest character with whom I missed the skill respec option in the month of MAY was just denied of that option now when I have put all my SP in total crap months ago :( Never the less I am not mad about that (my choices are my mistakes) , but still I wanted to share my idea here with you guys and probably get a response from a DEV on the matter
I was thinking about a remap system like the one we have in EVE , which is :
You get a bonus REMAP / RESTAT twice per year (every 6 or so months) It is a really nice system and allows you to focus on one thing 6 months and then change your progression goals towards another .
One remap twice per year is not bad and it is not going to brake the game at all Still it will resolve those issue that people have from specing in to weapons and gear that gets completely destroyed and became unusable wich forces them to use Militia gear for another 2-3 months just to compensate the lack of bonus SP to compensate their TOTAL , UNVOLONTARY change of direction . And it will resolve problems like mine , where I missed the respec in MAY and now I can't do anything with my 5m character wich rendres him absolutly useless and unusable ;)
I URGE you CCP look in this option because now it is not that bad since the most recent changes were still not impossible to adapt to , but after the 1.4 and 1.5 It will become so painfull for most of the players that a large percentage of us are going to instantaniously quit the game (let alone the fact that after 1.5 a ton of new stuff will be introduced in the game and 90% of the players will be left empty handed and won't have the SP to feel the new changes and use the new items wich will force them to grind several more months just to spec in to the new stuff = quitting for most of them ) . That is a thing which I , WE and YOU don't want to happen .
Kind regards ,

I agree with a remap system like in Eve. And you can't respec your SP in Eve. |

Yes you can not . But in eve they do not add whole new TREES of skills and items every month or so and they certainly do not suddenly nerf ships and guns with 30-50% in a night :)
You have to understand that the game is unfinished and that the restat/reskill/remap option every now and then fixes several problems like :
1.Lack of choice after an update 2.Grinding like in a korean MMORPG 3.Balance 4.More feedback on updated / newly introduced items/module/suits/etc 5.People quitting due to the lack of direction 6.People quitting to the lack of progression 7.Diversity
And many more ...
Ultimately this will increase the base of players and they will invest more time and money in to the game = simple as that . |

I can't say a respect wouldn't be nice, but if CCP gave into every demand for a respect after they changed something in the game, then people would just take advantage and respect into a new FOTM. Then when that gets re-balanced/nerffed it would happen all over again.
People should be clear on the fact that this game will be in a consistent state of change. You made a choice and now you have to live with that choice. I myself have over a million SP sunk into a suit I will most likely never use again. (Went from G Assault to Min Logi)
I get it too, you put your SP into something that has been altered to the point where you feel it justifies a respec. But, it shouldn't work that way. In EvE, no one got respecs when new ships or classes of ships came out. Or when skills were altered.
No AUR respecs either. Yes it would be a big increase in income for ccp, but then I can just pay a little money to respec into the FOTM every time my old one gets changed to my dislike.
Remapping is not a reallocating your SP in EvE, it is reassigning your stats to train your skills in a specific area faster. Since we don't use those type of stats it renders this conversation irrelevant. ( Not to be mean )
Good Idea, but just not for this game in my own personal opinion. |

I respect your opinion , but you can not make a game with almost mostly passive EXP and a CAP to active SP that is INSANELY LOW + change things ever week or month + offer no option of correcting mistakes and EXPECT CONSOLE players to keep sticking around . That won't work for too long |

They just split up the Spaceship command tree in Eve with the last update and added racial skills for battlecruisers and destroyers.
Let players respec their SP in Dust doesn't serve a single purpose other than letting players spec the FOTM. You get unlimited SP. You can spec everything. There is no need at all to respec. You don't like the changes in a suit? Fine. Spec into another. You want to use a new suit which was introduced in a new patch? Fine, just invest your next SP into it. There is no need for you to be able to instantly use all the new equip on proto level.
They could on the other hand introduce something like attributes in Eve and let you respec these attributes once a year. For example Skills like Engineering would cost less SP to train when you have lots of points in Intelligence but for this you have to remove points from another attribute which in return would make other skills cost more SP. |

I like the idea of a Remap, though that would require that they would include Attributes (something shot down when I brought it up Summer '12).
There is also the consideration that if they give us Attributes, at least some of them should be Physical (since purely Mental/Social Attributes make little sense to be impacting skills like Grenadier).
I do think that if we had Attributes and Remaps, it would cut down on the screams of "GIMME RESPEC NAO!!!!" since people would be able to cut down SP costs using Remaps.
We've already gone this far with no Attributes, I guess we'll just have to deal with it. |
