So i'm playing a skirmish match, and things were looking rough. Our MCC had just lost shields, the opposing MCC still had just a touch under 25% shields left, and the opposition controlled 3 of the 4 objectives, with no challenges to that control on the horizon. **** looked grim. Leading up to this, I had heard a guy on our team, to put it politely, getting frustrated with our teams performance up to that point. So he finally says "what the **** are y'all doing?! Take A, that's where they spawn, take A! So I dropped what I was doing and headed for A. I came around the back side of A, trying to find a way around the wall that stood between me and my objective (still learning the maps). I ended up getting killed then, and also a few seconds later when I spawned near the objective but again failed to reach my goal. All the while my team mate was saying "Come on!! Take A you ******* idiots!! Well, 3rd time was a charm and as I approached the objective, a good portion of our group was also converging on A and we took it. We secured another objective shortly thereafter, giving US control of 3 out of 4 objectives, and went on to win the match, and if I remember correctly we didn't give up a single objective after taking A.
Here's my point: Who ever this guy was, getting on his mic and cussing us and telling us what to do.........that is EXACTLY what Rookies need (I try and include titular lines in my posts whenever possible)!! I wasn't offended by his attitude. I wasn't offended by his language. I was happy to hear that disembodied voice telling me what I needed to do to help, to win. I could give a **** what you say about me, what you call me, if your including information on how I could help turn **** around on the battlefield, I am happy to have the direction, I got thick skin, I can take it.
So Vets, adopt some Rookies on your next match. You ain't gotta stick with us, heal us, protect us, or like us. Just tell us what to do. You don't have to explain the game, and you don't have to teach us any advanced tactics, just say take objective (fill in the blank). And if you wanna call us the sorriest pieces of **** that you've ever seen play while doing so I, at least, don't care. It's nice to hear a voice of reason in the silence that is Dust 514 as a Rookie. And to any Rookies fresh out the gate like me, if someone is trying to organize ANY kind of strategy, listen to them. They probably know what they're talking about. If they don't hey, it never hurts to have a plan. This is a team game after all. And don't take any criticism to heart, we're just a speed bump to a lot of these guys, they will forget you the second the match is over. And to the dude who got us on track during that battle, thanks man, out of all the matches I've played in my short 3 day career, that one was, by far, the most fun. |

I'll tell you I played hell getting my mic up and running. I don't know if it was the game or my system, but my first day and a half or so I could not get it to work. I tried every combination of settings in the games main options, in the team chat option, and in my PS3s Bluetooth Manager and Audio Accessory settings. I understood the whole PTT deal, just wouldn't work. Strange thing was i'd turn my mic on, start the game, and after starting pull up my Bluetooth Manager and my mic wasn't recognized by my PS3 anymore. The headset profile was there, but it wouldn't connect. When I tried to connect it I got a connection error, and had to delete the headset profile and re sync. I would start the game again and the headset profile would corrupt. Then it just all of a sudden stopped doing it and my mic has worked fine ever since. Now I will say, being as fresh as I am, I haven't used my mic much at all. I'm not much of a leader, there isn't much that I can do verbally to benefit any Vets ATM, and a large portion of Rookies in this game, just as in any other game of the type, don't generally listen to really anybody. Many have their own agenda much of the time, which is why I understand the lack of Vet comm activity in the Instant Battle matches. Probably no excuse, and I should probably still try, but I don't. I'm just tryin to gear as much as possible before joining a Corp (grinding for my first dropsuit other than the default one made out of cardboard I currently have). My eyes are on the tippy top of what the game has to offer. It's a looong ways away, but I look forward to playing and communicating with a solid team of knowns as opposed to jumping into quick battles with randoms.
P.S. I wanna say I've noticed that my char icon in the squad/team chat has not shown the little speech bubble icon at times even when I have been able to hear and be heard. Not 100% on that though. |
