On the other hand, the dumbasses that sit a short distance away, drop a nanohive right where they are shooting from, and then spam shots at the enemy are a great early warning device for nova knifers and counter snipers

Get off my hill- you aren't even aiming in a relevant direction. And TRY to put your nanohive on the other side of the crest or something.
Seriously, I countersniped someone (think it was a Thale's user, too) because I could see their nanohive from across the map. |

There's certainly a few maps that lend themselves to sniping better than others; for example, a game I played earlier today had myself and two other snipers (one to each side, several meters away) in what was basically a shooting gallery. We spent the whole battle finishing off each other's targets and covering the four nodes within our sight. I'd like to think that we helped the team win. |

I remember doing a piece about this. Sniping is...situational, at best, and a total waste of a body at worst. Still, I try to focus on the good part of it; A merc up in the hills being useless is still preferable to the one down in the thick of things, being useless and costing us more clones. Not that that's really the ideal situation, but what can you do? |

If I need ammo, I either go on a mission to find/hack a supply depot, or I try gesturing to other snipers to throw down a nanohive. If they throw down a nanohive, I make sure to flee the area after I get my ammo. Snipers are more effective when they change locations constantly, anyway. |

if i'm the best it's due to no contest, I've only ever seen one other sniper capable/willing to ground snipe and I don't even remember his name, everyone else is a high ground/red line sniper, or some assault who thinks a militia rifle is good enough.
I've heard stories of other snipers that can ground snipe but I've never had the pleasure of meeting them.
don't get me wrong their are plenty of people that can line up a shot quickly, and do a pretty good job sniping, but if you can only do that while 400 meters away in a hill, then you are only decent at the smallest part of the role. |

I move if I see any other snipe near my position, aside from the fact that they will probably get me killed, I see no need for two snipers to cover the same angles. |

Most people are terrible snipers.
When I'm bored instead of AFKing I choose to just countersnipe, and... It certainly is amusing.
I think most "high ground" snipers would live longer if they sniped with their weapon barely poking over a hill instead of for some confounded reason perch on the very top of said hill.
There's some good ones and some bad ones just like every role. |

ground sniping is situational, its plain fact that having a high vantage point lets you get a better read of the battlefeild and thus not only get more kills but be able to actualy cover/ scout for your squad. im not saying ground sniping dosent have some merit and most the people sniping on ridges are just there to kill farm, but just because your less safe on the ground dosent mean that your doing your job any better. |

Thanks, that was exactly what I was really getting at and your response saves me from asking the next questions I had. I enjoy sniping full time on my alt (only 1.5 million sp) I join random squads, cling to them, use them as shields and CQC snipe. You get soooo many more assists/kills as well as a huge increase in opportunties to assist/kill rather than being miles away waiting for an ant to run into your dot every 2 minutes. During my Socom to Socom 3 years all I did was jump/quick snipe (#1 on the Socom 3 leaderboards) It is so much more challenging in this game just because of the variety of crazy weapons and of course the huge HP pools resulting in less guaranteed OHK. I'm sure there are more snipers out there who aren't the stereotypical bump on a logs, maybe set up a channel, squad up, set up some sniper only wars or just mess around with some 1v1s. Keep up the good work and keep sniping those sheep:D |

if you ground snipe properly you make your own chances to snipe, their is definately not less things to shoot by being up close to the battle where the action is going on. |

Since I snipe as a situational thing I tend to know how people sniping think and how hard it is to find one, theres the:
Dumb sniper (80% of snipers)- sit on hill or rooftop all match from begining to end, with the sun in his back and nanohives glowing telling all " IM A SNIPER! PLEASE SHOOT ME!". With little to no kills.
Back-into-corner sniper (same people as before but this time they started with an assault class )- The people who have been redlined and think "F*** this I'm gonna snipe!". And makes the hole team lose because they basically gave up.
And finally the Smart Sniper (20% of snipers )- they keep on the move, lock objectives , plant uplinks , protect their squad or any friendly in trouble, never stay close to their nanohive or hide it, isn't afraid to go ground snipe when necesary and counter snipe troublesome snipers and when damage has been done they change dropsuits leaving the other team looking for him the hole match.
Now which one is the one u hate?(on your team, we all know which one u hate on the other team) |

Gimme the smart all around sniper please. Not degrading conventional sniping at all but rationalizing that kinda playstyle by saying "snipers are supposed to scout, give enemy locations, etc." is silly considering there is a mini map and distance isn't really that much of a factor in this game( you can pretty much see someone from across the entire map without the use of zoom). Snipers shouldn't be forced into that sideline role just like logi's shouldn't be forced into being just glorified medics. |

Hmm... checklist time They keep on the move: not really unless I'm sniped at I usually find good places that cover much of the field lock objectives: yep plant uplinks: nope rather have nanohives, and don't run anything with 2+ equipment slots protect friendlies: I've got thank you mail from saving a dude hidden nanohive: check! ground/counter snipe: sometimes change suits: kinda defeats the purpose of constantly moving

funny....i think my least favorite attempts mid battlefield are on the tabletop, it's always the mass drivers. You pick off the people on that roof opposite while your team is dealing with closer range targets running around underneath or trying to climb the ladders, then 'BOOM!!' time to switch back to the suit with uplinks because that guy took out three of them trying to hit you. |

One of the best snipers I have ever gotten into a squad with pulled 28-4-1, again that's working with the sniper. He made me feel inadequate until he pointed out a few things he has trouble pulling off that I could do. On a side to that, whenever I see him on the opposing team, I let him know I'm there with a friendly head shot if he pokes a little too high out of his hiding spot. |
