1) Shouldn't hesitate on trigger pull. 2) Shouldn't shoot blanks. 3) Shouldn't be a precision instrument. 4) Shouldn't lose to spray-and-pray in close quarters. 5) Shouldn't tickle targets when hit from behind.

I've mostly given up on using shotty since Uprising due to these issues. Positive news is that i've seen a few posts where CCP acknowledges that there is a problem and they are accepting feedback.
I hope it doesn't take long. Shotgun scout w/kin cat was one of the most enjoyable classes in Beta. |

and what is up with pointing right at the enemy, firing, and getting no dmg?

Forge Gun fire can OHK infantry at dang near any range, shouldn't a Shotgun do the same at 3 meters? It takes quite a bit of planning and a little luck to get into shotgun range. I will never understand why folks feel they deserve to survive multiple, point-blank shotgun blasts. |

From what I've gather the shotgun nerfs weren't intentional.
The first nerf was a nerf to aiming which makes it much more difficult to keep the shotgun pointed at the enemy in CQC. All weapons experience this but it is exacerbated at short range where tracking is harder.
The second nerf was the removal of sharpshooter which decreased the engagement range and even further exacerbated the difficulty of aiming.
As for hit detection I can never keep track of whether it is getting better or worse.
In Chomosome I had no difficulty aiming with any weapon. Everything felt natural and easy with my mouse and the shotty was one of my primary weapons. I do remember pinging people from pretty far away with the shotgun and that was a bit silly but not terribly OP.
In uprising I'm finally starting to get the hang of the aiming but it is always a struggle and I find the shotgun almost unusable.
Have you skilled into shotguns? Does the narrower cone improve performance/range noticeably? |

Keep in mind HMG is supposed to be a CQC weapon too. Heavies have enough hard counters already; let's not add shotguns to them. |

The HMG is and should be a deadly force in forward-facing CQC. But the shotgunner who sneaks up behind you is your supposed counter. CCP breaches a delicate balance every time a fatty turns around and kills the shotgunner at his back. This is already happening often, and the rotation speed buff in 1.4 will further shift imbalance in your favor. This offers yet another reason to buff the shotgun. |
