I write this post under the assumption that scouts, in their current iteration, skirt the fine line between extremely mission-specific and entirely pointless; nearly everything a scout can do is more easily achievable on a medium suit with the right modules, while having the added benefit of more survivability. It isn't the medium users' fault their suits are more complete than the scout suit currently is, and it isn't the scout users' fault their suit is deficient in features that give it purpose, but this is the problem we have, and I want to propose an easy fix that will last until more substantial changes and features become available, and in the process would make scout LAVs not entirely pointless, with the feature to balance this fix already in the game as an underutilized item.
Scout dropsuits and scout LAVs should have the additional feature that, upon investing in profile dampening, they can be detected and shown both on radar and with overhead icons ONLY with the use of active scanners. Passive scanning is now useless on scouts and scout LAVs, allowing all of them to better fulfill their intended purposes.
This fix, I would imagine, could b+Žte piracy until some sort of cloaking modules are implemented or other changes to allow scouts a role again, though it might make an intriguing permanent addition to the game. I keep hearing that CCP wants to make electronic warfare useful in Dust 514, and they could start by making profile dampening and active scanners a more important part of the game. |

The profile dampening skill should be a bonus on all scout suits regardless of race. It would also to be interesting to give scout suits a greater basic scan radius and possibly precision rating seeing as they are scouts to begin with. Especially if used with the active scanner. This would definitely make more people think about skilling into the suit... |

CCP plans on keeping active scanners squad only, in that only people in your squad see the effect of actives scanners. CCP is now even debating having cloaking on the road map due to potential hassle of getting them right. They are in fact excited about introducing ewar which would disrupt communication and tacnet info along with eventually giving active scanners squad only war points in the near future.
If scouts are going to have any role, they are going to need a damage bonus or cpu/pg reduction to sidearms to serve as unusual weapon specialists and wp potential to serve as negative logis with ewar.
Add in more dependency between medium suits and scouts in stats for speed, profile, and passive scan radius, and I think we will be sated for a while. |

That would only partially help in my opinion. Adding more base CPU/PG, higher base speeds, an extra equipment slot, Cloaking Devices as Scout ONLY, and the ability to charge and sprint Novas and I would be a very happy Scout. |

I cant speak for Galente, but I can for Minni..
The proto minni scout is fine, I hated the % bonus to melee at first but now? I think close to 20% of my kills are melee now,.
The scout has stamina, 860 stamina if we want, think thats a waist? yea,. keep thinking that then.
not only can we kite 90% of the players we meet, we can sprint 100% of the time, and with a long range rifle? /cough TAC, tell me who has superior positioning..
we can pick an choose most of the fights,
we have stealth built in, why dont more players see how good that actually is? I know its good cus I can spawn into a camped location and just run on out with no fire taken.( not just badatrons, good players to )
we strife fast, move fast, we go off radar just by stepping behind someone, the list could go on an on..
this whole Assault can do it better is BS,. |

I'm going to assume ignorance here,
1) First and foremost CCP has recorded enough data to determine that the scout is not holding up cost wise as a viable suit, that the risk reward ratio for the scout is worse
2) Between the stamina pool nerf which hit scout the hardest and the strafe speed increase for all other suits, the stamina pool and slight speed increase do not compensate for the improve hit detection and range of the most common weapons on most of the maps. Especially considering the slot difference between medium suits and light suits, I've actually been outrun by min logis and assault players who specced for speed. The only light frame that can top those medium frames is the proto min suit and not by much.
3) There is zero stealth to the game right now beyond staying out of line of sight, active scanners are extremely rare and passive scanning does not function correctly. Stealth is seeing where the fire fight is and going around to flank, everybody with the exception of a heavy suit can perform such.
Essentially we have a noticeable stamina pool difference and a slight speed increase +.4. compared to their racial assault version, which is the weakest form of tanking due to the very limited maps that benefit from such. For that trade off we get the lowest cpu/pg (we have to make the most sacrifices in choices), lowest ehp (effectively 1 second dps of most weapons takes us down), lowest slot count (so the least customization). While we have a -5 difference to profile signatures, it currently is only effective in preventing an active scanner from working which even the best active scanners can always beat the best dampening scout if they were ever used.
I'm not saying that one one can play a scout, just that the trade offs are no where near as close and the cost and rate of returns is not on the same linear formula the other classes play on. |

Especially the gallente scout is weak, he looses on high slot from advanced to proto . With only one high he is unable to damage or shield tank so everything that leaves is armor tanking but who in hell would accept a penalty to speed on a scout? Throw in the small speed advantage the scout has compared to assaults and the disadvantage gets even greater. Ferrpscale plates do not help very much due to the high CPU/PG requirements...
The bonus on the gallente scout is useless even if passive scanning would work with the small base value for passive scanning the 10% increase in scanradius translate to 1m per level. And passive scanning gives you exactly nothing. So the only way to get WP is to hunt in other Dropsuits areas. As killer or as fast Hacker but in both aspects the gallente scout is far weaker than medium suits.
Even with 2 or 3% damage bonus (to sidearm or SMG type weapons) the gallente scout would still be weak because of low amount of highslots.
The gallente scout desperatly needs a new and sufficient role on the battlefield, the Minniscout is way more balanced (but still weak).
All in all scouts get a huge nerf with uprising for no reason :( |

It's a shame that we keep seeing these threads about scouts, but I too can confirm the issues raised here. I'm getting to the point where I hate playing my scout char and dread grinding the SP each week.
1) Hit box messes up while running/evading - Die quicker 2) Being spotted while completely hidden - Seems I'm on the radar! WTF! 3) Stupid amounts of damage from the "infinite range" change - I'm skinny ffs, shouldn't that make a difference? 4) Electronics skills that make very little difference - Why should I bother wasting SP.
I'm hopeful that CCP are aware scouts need some love, I just hope they get around to it before I spec into Medium suits to be a "real" scout |
