I've not been around in a few months, since the last reset and have a lot of SP built up and I don't want to waste it. Right now I'm leaning towards Heavy and a Sniper build. Any thoughts on this or recommendations on skills I should buy? I know in EVE new players usually are told to cap out their Rank 1 skills to 5 to make fitting easier but I'm pretty much a noob so I don't know if there are also skills like that as well in DUST. |

I'd make sure I had my core skills in order, dropsuit engineering(+5% CPU per) and electronics(+5% PG per) at least to 4 depending on where you left off.
Dropsuit shield upgrades and armor upgrades benefits you no matter what tank you're running although not always necessary.
And I probably would do my research and pick 1 class to run so you don't spread your SP too thin. Unless you plan on playing a bunch in the next few weeks then it wont matter too much which class you start with, you'll find the one you like.
Research before you spend it all though, regardless of what you spend it on |

That's the game plan but it felt a little overwhelming lol. My first thought is ho Heavy, but I read that with the patch and wipe they nerfed the DPS of the minigun. I was playing an Assault build and constantly got my ass kicked it felt like and could not do enough dmg to take someone toe to toe most of the time. Since they did a clean sweep and refunded all the isk I'm sitting pretty well and can branch out however I want to. Getting the basics is a good idea and I'll take those as you suggested. From when I played shield tank seemed to be the better of the two. I enjoy the play of a heavy but sometimes like to sit back and snipe, map plays a large part of that. Anyone else have suggestions for what to spec into farther down the tree? I need to look over the tree's closer but it feels a little overwhelming I'm afraid to say :( |

My advice is get your core skills to at least 3 and then play with some militia fits to see what playstyle you like. Give it about two weeks MINIMUM and then make your decision. No respecs will be given if you mess up on your skills or decide you don't like something later. |

Well I don't know much about Sniper builds, but if you're looking to go Heavy, you could check out these build ideas: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=98159&find=unread |

Heavy and Sniper? Welp I'm not much luck to you sir, I'd go commando or Logi if you want to be a self sufficient sniper. I can help if you decide to go for a logi or assault fit. |

I've got a Sentinel build with 5.6 mil SP that has worked wonders for me. I've got breakdown of it here: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=98481&find=unread
I would also go to the guide posted earlier by Bears Beets. It's a great source of information on the Heavy suit in general.
Whatever you go with, though, I wish you the best of luck.

I'll check both guides, My sniping is usually more counter sniping than anything, also a change of pace for when a heavy is to slow to keep on the front line. I have both guides open right now and will look over each of them, heavy suit is a given for a HMG Dmg absorbing class, but what kind of suit for sniping? Logi seemed to be more flexible being able to carry both a ammo replenishing and a spawn point module over the scout suits if you didn't mind no side arm. |

+1. Be aware of the fit of the month, and what weapons you choose. You'd be asking to get nerfed. But if you choose either heavy or sniper (pick one), you should be ok. Sniper fits fly under the nerf radar, and heavies have already been nerfed to oblivion. I miss rocking my heavy. The HMG is nothing more than a full-auto airsoft rifle after chromosome. So now he's sitting idle, collecting SP, waiting for the *cough* heavy laser? Or a new vehicle discipline. If you do decide to go heavy, be aware that the next patch will (tentatively) include the other racial suits for the heavy. As of now you only have Amarr to choose from, and i'd hate to see you skill into that race only to find out you'd rather have skilled into "suit B" a couple months later. |

That's the real downside to a new game and a MMO in particular, things are always changing and the Devs tend to over reach :( My main fail about sniping is I can't ever seem to hit consecutive shots quick enough so if they don't go down on the first shot I most likely will not get the kill. |
