Armor tanking is good. It really is, I've been running it for some time now in gallente core and logi suits and you can make it work really well.
Fitting armor isn't easy tho, there are many questions like how many plates? What plates? Armor repairers? Shield tankers can just spam extenders and win but dont be afraid to try armor.
As a noob you face the problem that armor repairers just isnt effective enough. Getting shot and waiting 120+ seconds to get that armor back just isnt good enough, you need ways to regain that HP.
This is how i would fit a Gallente standard core suit:
High Shield extender
Lows Armor plate Armor plate Armor repairer
Weapons Any rifle (or w/e you prefer) Any sidearm Any Grenade
Equipment Compact Nanohive
The nanohive in this fit really is key, get it asap because it can repair 50 armor per cycle. You only get one so place it in a safe area so you can go back to it if needed. If you get damaged a littlebit just let your repairer do its job.
Gallente ADV Core: (this is a suit i still use from time to time)
Highs Enhanced Shield Extender Enhanced Light Damage Modifier
Lows Enhanced Armor Plates Enhanced Armor Plates Enhanced Armor Repairer
Weapons GEK-38 Assault Rifle M512-A Submachine Gun Locus Grenade
Equipment Compact Nanohive
With these fits i have owned so many shield tankers, movement is key for your survival but strafing isnt as good for us so jump a lot when in CQC. Always use cover when you can, having a armor repping nanohive rep you in combat is gold. The biggest fears are grenades and Mass drivers, turning and running is a good idea, at a range you can dodge and take them down.
I think one of the biggest strengths to these fits is the damage mod in combination to decent HP, if you cant aim and get that damage applied you will die.
So how do you armor tank? |

Started out Dual Tanking, retardedly at that, Straight Shields, Straight Plates, the speed reduction was insane.
I've focused more on quicker moving, self repairing characters rather than damage tanking or pure tanking recently, I used to be such an armor fanatic, but since I unlocked Complex Shield Mods, I've changed man... I've changed.
Now I try make an even balance between Ferroscale and Basic/ADV Plates, and reppers.
If I'm running a mostly shield fit, I'll run Regulators and Complex Reppers on lows and 4x Complex Shield Extenders on high.
I have a shield fit that has a 15hp/s armor repair rate on top of 520ish shields, so that's kinda ridiculous
If I'm running mostly armor, I'll run Enhanced Shield Extenders, Complex Damage Mod on highs, and 1 Basic, 1 Enhanced, 1 Enhanced Repper on lows, occasionally militia KinCats.
Either way it works out around 600 overall HP regardless of which tank I use, if I spammed nothing but plates and extenders I could hit 900hp.
I think Repper's are absolutely key when it comes to running with armor, sure you can lose up to 115hp if you're swapping out a complex plate for it, but the enhanced survivability and maneuverability far outweighs the extra HP.
As a rule, I'd probably never fit a complex plate on to any fit bar a heavy, the movement penalty is insane.
When I used to run straight plates and extenders, I've been lucky to be essentially ALWAYS running with a Logi in my squad, sometimes 2 in every single match, but since I started Pro Dual Tanking with Reppers/Regulators, most of the time all I need a logi for is ammo. Although I could kiss those sick motherlovers when they roll through with their rep hives and back up. |

I hybrid/regen tank in my amarr logi for range and max dps. I can get about 520 eHP, 15 armor repair/s and 22 shield/s. Along with a complex damage mod, scr rifle, sidearm, scanner, and healing hive for extra ammo/reps. |

My current Gallente Assault fit:
High Slots Complex Light Damage Modifier Complex Light Damage Modifier Complex Light Damage Modifier
Low Slots Basic Armor Plate Basic Armor Plate Basic Armor Plate Complex Armor Repairer
Weapons Duvolle AR/TAR (Prof. 5) Toxin SMG Flux Grenades
Equipment Allotek Nanohive (R)
I like being able to stack triple damage mods to go along with AR Proficiency 5, while still being able to tank up to 605 HP. Now that the Flaylock and Contact Grenades have been nerfed, I like it even more |

Sounds pretty damn good to me.
Still high speed, decent HP and insane damage.
Gallente is nice, it just takes some intelligence to fit your suit. I'm not sure why so many people think we are underpowered...

armor tanking sucks at low levels
but the better the suit gets and the better the plates and reppers get
combined with squad support with rep tools and triage hives
the better it becomes

This. You need some creativity, that's all. Armor tanking is awesome.

lately ive been running a proto gallente scout with over 600 total hp
I know alot of people go for the speed but I like testing new things out so I did this and its awesome
you get a bit more speed then an assault great stamina and you can jump more
not to mention the you get the scout strafe speed and hit box
the best part is i'm wondering what people think when they look at the kill screen and see
125 shield and 503 armor |

Tip: enhanced damage mods arent worth it. Eiher go 2 complex damage mods, or 2 complex shields. |

I armor tank by filling all high slots with Shield Extenders, and all low slots with the best Armor Plates, then rely on a corpmate with a real logi suit to keep me alive (which actually works really damn well for my heavy)... Otherwise I don't even bother and go shields. |

Personally? I fit mine with Hardeners, good reppers and a heavy plate. Then an Active scanner and a heat sink.

Well for the best thing for armour tankers is having a logi bro to help you out. Failing that I love the proto triage hives either use them some where you can defend or set up a fall back point. |

I guess this is the best the Gallente assault can get. Damage mods and plates. Dual tanking (shields and armor) is interesting as well.

for my amarr assault STD I use
-1-2 basic shield extenders -2 basic/enhanced armor plates or reactive or ferroscale if I want speed -1 basic repair -Nanohives if im in ambush -repair tool if im in skirmish or domination
-single fire scrambler rifle because it fires as fast as you pull the trigger -or automatic SR If im a logi I normally don't use a sidearm but when I do I use the BPO recruit SMG and for grenades I use flux for easy kills or cooking a locus grenade for possible insta-kill |

Personally I have been finding that reps over hp in most battles prevails, ran 1 complex, 3 reps, 1 enhanced shield 2 damage. works well for the most, unless you get caught in the open. Big time sniper bait, especially with the dumbass 90/100 sniper damage.
Try not to dance with MD's tho, use cover and nades, they explode just lke we do. |

I agree with this but its not viable on a core or assault suit until youre proto. On the logi suit its awesome in combo with the skill rep bonus and it works on a ADV level. |

Before flaylocks, armor was fairly decent, as long as you didn't mind moving like a heavy. These days armor is a handicap if you don't have a personal logi. I run adv. Gallente assault with 1 enhanced plate, 1 basic, and 1 enhanced repair unit. Saving up for complex repair now. In order to armor tank, you have to build your fits to either repair decently, or withstand a ton of damage. The only HA HA moment you get armor tanking is when some fool throws a flux grenade at you. |
